Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Similar to the title Bizzy Bear: Let's Get to Work!, this book also offers pull tabs and a running story. The cover presents a pirate ship that can rock back and forth on the waves. Opening the book, readers see Bizzy Bear with his pirate hat headed for a waiting ship. The red and white striped sail can be raised and lowered. The ship sets sail and little ones see some of the creatures that inhabit the sea. Bizzy is the helmsman and Pig is a deckhand busily swabbing down the deck. The parrot seems to be squawking and pointing to something. Aha! It is a desert island and using a map Bizzy and his crew dig in the sand with the help of little fingers. Their efforts pay off as a brown chest is revealed. Push the tab up and voila, there is a collection of jewels and coins hidden in that sea chest. The back cover asks a question to make young readers think about what they have seen, heard, and participated in. It is a sturdy book with pulls and tabs that move easily and it is an excellent approach to understanding the sequence of activities and their result, but it is not quite as interesting or effective as the companion title about construction. I got the Bizzy Bear series of books for my 13 month old son after checking one of them out from the library. He loves them all. The pictures have parts that move and turn and he loves to make them move. the stories are simple and rhyming and the illustrations are vibrant and colorful with lots to look at. He brings these books to me at least 20 times per day to read to him.
