Overview

You'd think that someone with a name like Harry Houdini Marco would be deft and skillful, but Harry could only occasionally catch even an easy fly ball without making some dumb error. On top of that, most of his friends' families were moving to the suburbs. It would have been a long, dreary summer, but then a Mr. Mazeeck showed up and turned out to be more than he seemed.

This now classic book was first published by Atheneum in 1966. It was selected by Scholastic Books for inclusion in the Arrow Book Club and later republished in a Dell Yearling edition in 1988.

Twelve-year-old Harry Houdini Marco is awkward and clumsy, bearing little resemblance to his magician namesake, until he acquires the gift of flight.

    awesome book!

I found out about this book while doing an online search for something else at the time. I read a synopsis of the book, and thought it would be an interestig read. Wow! I really had no idea how much of a magical treat I was in for. I have since read this book through three times, and each time through I enjoy it just as much as when I first read it. The naration of the book is done is such a way that it captures the reader's imagination keeps them intrested all the way thru to the very end.

    Finding an old friend

Wow I first read this book in 1966. I found it again for my kids from an interlibrary loan. I checked for it today at BN and I can't believe I found it. This book is a magical book for me. My children loved it and I want to have a copy on hand to read to my grandchildren.

One of my favorites as a kid

I loved this book & still remember it fondly 35 years later. The central character is a clumsy boy who stumbles onto some magic lotion that allows the user to fly. By the time he uses up the lotion, he's mastered the coordination needed to fly correctly, and has grown both physically and emotionally in the process.
