In this stunning, high-quality DVD-ROM, Batdorff starts with the basics--composition, light, contrast, and textures--and when to choose black and white. He covers all the key camera features that affect your image (regardless of what type of DSLR you have), including the shutter speed's ability to freeze and convey motion, as well as aperture's direct correlation with depth of field.
Once you've captured those shots, John will tak you step-by-step through color conversion and post-processing in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and show you cool enhancements that can be added with Nik Silver Efex Pro software to make your black and white images truly stand out.

I am a beginning/intermediate photographer and I learned a lot from this book. The step by step instructions for converting and processing black and whites were awesome. It is a beautiful book, and definitely recommended for anyone who wants to make beautiful black and whites.

This is an absolutely phenomenal book, that I recommend to anyone, from complete beginner to more advanced artists looking for a bit of inspiration and guidance. John Batdorff's book is incredibly well-written, easily drawing you in a taking you on a photographic journey. From equipment to post-processing, this book covers everything you need to get out and take a great shot. I'm not normally one to read a book of this type from cover to cover, in order, but this book changed that. The moment I sat down and began reading, I became fully engaged. Reading this book, all I wanted to do was get out and test what I was learning, and no sooner than I got up, I grabbed my camera and went out looking for my great shot. It's an incredibly inspirational book; a purchase that you will be fully pleased to have made. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
