Overview

Three fateful encounters.
Two heart-breaking tragedies.
One last chance to get it right.

From New York Times best selling author Cassia Leo, comes an epic love story about rewriting destiny.

Over the course of five years, Mikki and Crush cross paths on three separate occasions. Their first encounter changes Mikki's life forever, but their second meeting leaves them both buried beneath the emotional wreckage of a violent attack. Mikki is left with more questions and grief than she can handle, while Crush is forced to forget the girl who saved his life.

Now nineteen years old, Mikki Gladstone has decided she's tired of the mind-numbing meds. She books a flight to Los Angeles to end her life far away from her loving, though often distant, family.

Twenty-one-year-old Crush has always channeled his blackest thoughts into his music, but he's never had great aspirations. He decides to fly to Los Angeles to record a demo of the only song he's never performed in public; a song he wrote for a girl he doesn't even know: Black Box. He has no expectations of fame and he's never felt like his life had any purpose... until he meets Mikki in Terminal B.

When Mikki and Crush cross paths for the third time in Terminal B, neither has any idea who the other person is; until they slowly piece together their history and realize that fate has more in store for them than just another love story.

ABSOLUTELY DESERVES MORE THEN 5 STARS!!!!
"This Black Box is yours to keep, to stash your troubles away. Just lock it up and call my name, and I'll be there always..."
I can't even begin to describe how great this book is.
First off my warning: this book has sensitive things in it that some people may not be able to handle so let me save you some time and the author a bad review by saying if you are emotionally sensitive about suicide or rape this book is not for you.
I LOVED THE BOOK. for me it's about good or bad everything happens for a reason. FATE....Every action is set for a reaction at some other point in life.
From the very first page this book consumed me. Through the pages it made my heart float and sink and ripped the tears right out of my soul. Every time you turn the page you just have to know whats next but when those "oh my gawd" moments happen you can't help but gasp. Cassia Leo has truly out done herself. I love the alternate POVs because in this book it's really helpful to know what both characters are thinking. I like that the POVs switch at chapters and pick up right at or minutes before the last so you aren't re reading. This book is so much different then the typical story. It's unique and special and most likely will hold the spot as my new most favorite book! If you're fine with the warning then get your tissues and find a hiding place you can let go a good ugly cry for the sad and the happy parts. THIS IS A MUST READ!!

    Black Box

Wow is all I can say! This is a great book. It has a lot of emotional content. It had me in every kind of emotion there is. I laughed, cried, loved, hated and wanted more. This a deep book of love and true mental issues. I wasn't sure that I wanted to read it but I am so glad I did. Cassia did it again. Love all her books so far.

Hands down one of the best books I have ever read. This book takes you on a roller coaster of emotions. It is about a boy and a girl who have their first chance encounter on Twitter. He ends up saving her life while he is dealing with his own guilt over a tragedy. A year later they have a second encounter where he again saves her life but she unknowingly saves his as well. Another 3 years later they meet by chance again and he is once again saving her life. The story covers the tragedies they have suffered and how together their love can help them move forward. I love the epilogue that was just added as well. Definitely worth 5 stars.

This was my first time reading a novel by this author. My sister recommended it to me after she read it. . I read it in one night! I love that it's a novel and not a series! I love the style of writing, the pace, the characters, etc.. This book has you in such an emotional rolleroaster. It may have be a little harder for some, only because of life. I'm going right now to purchase all of the rest of her books!!!

    ♥¿ Three fateful encounters....
    ♥¿ Two heart-breaking tragedies....

Holy emotional overload. What a story! So many insightful themes running through this story that you need to take time to fully incorporate them. The writing is gripping and raw. The interweaving of the characters POVs just make it that much more powerful. Cassia Leo has a gift of story telling and making your heart feel every word and emotion. I loved how she wove her themes together seamlessly. The use of the Black Box is magic. “This black box is yours to keep, to stash your troubles away. Just lock it up and call my name and I'll be there always.” “There's a little blackness Inside all of us.”

“Fear is crippling. Fear of the future can convince us that there is no way out and nothing is ever going to get better. Fear is blinding; it can make us miss the warning signs flashing right in front of our eyes. It can also make you miss those brilliant flashes of color, when the world isn’t so gray. But, if you think about it, being afraid isn’t such a bad thing. Because fear is a reminder that you still have something to lose. Something worth holding onto.”

Everyone will take something special from this book. It will touch your heart. It is dark, emotional, sad but in the end it is a story of hope and the power of love.

“I love you with all my circuits.”

    OMG

I don't know where to start! This book was fantastic!! It gripped you from the very beginning. My heart bled for both Crush and Mikki. When you wrote of what happened to Mikki and how Fate put Crush there to save her I was crying so bad I hurt. Then to find out what happened to Crush was equally heartening. The discovery of who they were to each other and the eventual coming together only to be torn apart again by the plan crash again had my heart in my mouth and I was gasping and turning the pages. Well done Cassia Leo, well done! I highly recommend everyone to read this!

    It's raw; it's perfect.

If you are in need of an emotional book with a realistic story line then this one is for you. No sugar coating.
You will feel sadness. You will cry. You will wonder why???

I need to tell you how I ended up choosing this book....
I don't usually judge a book by it's cover...but when I saw this cover floating on goodreads, I went on Amazon, pre-ordered the paperback & then waited to get the e-book.
I did not read the synopsis of the book. The cover was enough to grab my attention. I needed to know what the couple, the black box & the plane had in common. I thought I had it figured out but I was in for a surprise.

Nikki & Crush save each others lives but they don't know about it until years later.
They both go through a very difficult time in their lives. There will be sadness, depression, suicide thoughts, crying. There will be the issue of trusting; letting one in.
You will feel sadness but you will feel hope.

    Then something happens.
Your heart will stop beating....then it will start....then it will????

Just read & find out for yourself.
Does this book have a happy ending?
I can't spoil it for you.

My favorite quotes from this book:

"Someone wise once told me that al all books have happy endings, but that doesn't mean they're not worth the read."
"There's a little blackness inside all of us."
    "You make me feel normal."
"I feel like I've known you all my life. I don't want that feeling to go away. I want to know you all my life."

    Ok read

I had a hard time getting into this book. I read it though but it felt drawn out. Note: the whole book takes place over a six day period with flashbacks for background info. I understand the depth of the topic but I wish it had been more to do with the future of the couple. Overall okay read.

¿Do not be afraid; our fate cannot be taken from us; it¿s a gift

“Do not be afraid; our fate cannot be taken from us; it’s a gift.”

Have you read a book that's starts off as a slow burn, that leads to spark, and then it all out consumes you? This was Black Box for me.  From the teasers and the prologue I knew I was in for an intense ride. It did not disappoint. This was a very unique story about fate and two very broken people.

Don’t Worry, son, not all stories have happy endings; but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth the read.

Mikki is beautifully broken girl. She’s 19, bipolar, and determined to die. She survived a terrible incident 4 years ago and since then the random thoughts, sporadic behavior, and reliving the dark things that happened to her, have all become too much, and she’s ready to end it all. So she comes up with a plan to head to LA and end her life. Fate intervenes as her flight is canceled and she’s stuck in Boston where she runs into Crush.

“This Black Box is yours to keep, to stash your troubles away. Just lock it up and call my name and I’ll be there always.”

Crush, is 21 and a handsome, talented musician. He’s’ finally headed to L.A to peruse his music career. He grew up with a privileged upbringing but he wants to so much more than the easy life. Even though Crush seems so strong and put together, he’s hurting too. There are secrets from his past that haunt him.
They seem familiar to each other but neither knows why and over the next 5 days, they learn so much about each other. As past and present are told, you see the pieces start to fall into place and learn what brought them together.  There was so much pain, guilt, and loss throughout this book. It was so intense that I had to put my book my book down and just cry for them both. The story consumed me, I felt all their emotions, and desperately wanted for them both to be able to get past their demons. I was scared to see what would happen next but I kept turning the pages. It’s such uniquely amazing story. Cassia truly outdid herself.  Definite 5 stars.

“Maybe that’s the way life is. We spend our lives going back and forth between courage and fear, afraid, of something bad happening. Afraid of falling. Afraid of dying. But what if death comes so fast it’s over before you even know what’s happening.”

“I hate that you saved me But, most of all, I hate that you love me because now I love you and I don’t know who to make it stop.”

“Sometimes, you just have to reassure the ones you love in precise language that you’ll always be there. Sometimes words are enough”

It brings the dark to light!

Reading this is very hard at times but yet you can't stop. It touches on two minds that have given up on life but come together to save one another. I know how it if to lose someone to suicide. My mother! So reading this book is hard yet comforting. It is a book that any person with their own dark thoughts should read. And, hopefully, have the same ending.

Cassia Leo delivers again. She never fails to take me on an amazing emotional journey with her stories. Mikki pulled at my heart strings. She is bi-polar which is challenging enough to function, searching for balance to cope with daily life then the unthinkable happens, an event that would shatter the best of us and made my skin crawl. Trying to recover from this is crushing her and she doesn’t know how to cope. As she embarks on her plan to end it all she crosses paths with Crush, a sweet, sexy and somewhat tormented music aficionado. When Mikki sees him she feels like she knows him. As their flight gets cancelled, a unique connection is formed as they decide to head to a hotel together. Crush is drawn to Mikki when he sees her at the airport, he realizes later he does know her, their paths have crossed 2 other times. Crush too is battling his demons and Mikki has helped him in the past. The connection these two souls form is heartfelt and wonderful. As the story unfolded I found myself immersed in the journey that Mikki and Crush need to take and loved every heart pounding moment!
