Overview

There was something seriously wrong with Marty. That was the only explanation that she could come up with. Why else would she feel this way for the biggest SOB in town? Granted, he was also the hottest man in town, but he was also arrogant, callous, and determined to drive her away even as he drove her crazy with his touch. She should just walk away from him and probably would if it wasn’t for this connection that she’d always had with him that kept making her want more with the one man that couldn’t give her anything more than heartache.

He should have left and never looked back when he’d decided to finally do the right thing and push Marty out of his life, but instead he stuck around to torture himself by staying close to the one woman that he could never allow himself to have. She deserved better than him, better than the tortured existence that he led and better than the horrifying future that waited for him.

*Author's note: This is a paranormal romance involving ghosts and soul mates. This is different from my other books so this may not be for you if you don't enjoy the above. Thank you, R.L.

So first let me start by saying that I love all R.L's books. This was just as amazing. I love that it's different from the other books but still draws you in. I really enjoyed Marty and Tristan's story and I can't wait to read Shayne's story.

A great start to another awesome series by RLM. Even when she is writing a series with a paranormal twist, her writing style is so charming, witty, and flat outt funny at times that you are able to connect and find qualities that you can relate to with her characters. The best part about RLM is she gives you a full story everytime, this book was just over 300 pages, yet just like with her other series she will incorporate the main characters in this book into the other stories of the series. If you enjoy this book, definitely read her other series, neighbor from hell and pyte/sentinel are my favorites.

I have to admit I did not like this book the first time around. The story did not grab me as quickly as the NFH series did and I was feeling let down. I breezed through the story quickly at first go round. Now that I have read the story again I can see that I did not give it a fair shake. The typical humor was there, it just took a little longer for it to be unearthed. Tristan and Marty's story has the snarky but devoted love usual found with the author's characters. A little paranormal twist and you have what could turn out to be a great series. There's still more to learn about Tristan and Marty's path not to mention all the brothers. I hope to see the series continue so I can hear more about the curse and all the brothers. I did not find the story confussing as some readers did. The intro of the brothers and flashbacks are probably what some found problamatic. The story is not perfect and there are still some editing issues, but I think over more story arcs the characters will become more beloved. They are not the Bradfords, however given more story time I can see the potential. With every NFH book I fell in love withe Bradfords more and more; further stories about Shayne, Liam, Quinn, etc I think will give me and other readers the opportunity to fall for new characters. If you have read any of R.L. Mathewson's previous works give Black Heart a try. By about 50 pages in the pacing picks up and you get a better feel for the storyline.

~Reviewed by SUZANNE & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog Marty has an addiction. No matter how much she distances herself, no matter what she does, the addiction is always on her mind. Tristan Black. He has ignore her since high school, is the biggest ass hole she has ever met and yet, somehow, she still is head over heels for him. Having Marty close by is like torture for Tristan, he needs her, but pushing her away is for her own good, he has secrets, dangerous ones… I am a big fan of R.L. Mathewson, so I was pleased when I saw this book, somehow I had missed it in my initial R.L. Mathewson binge! But, although I enjoyed it and it had a vibe similar to the books in her Neighbour from Hell series, it seemed to lose its way once a paranormal element was inserted into the book. In general though, I just didn’t connect very well with this book, the characters although I liked them, they were so similar to her characters form other books, that I found myself getting bored. The introduction of the paranormal although I liked the idea, the last 25% of Black Heart became really drawn out and a little tedious, which meant excitement I felt over certain events in the book quickly dissipated. But, despite this seeming like a fairly negative review, I did like the book, especially the beginning. It made me laugh and it had some great sexy moments as well. I will also continue to read this series, so all in all, I definitely don’t regret that £0.49 I spent on Black Heart.

R.L. Mathewson writes fun and engaging books with fun characters. Light byt fulfilling reads with happy endings. The only complaint I have is that when the brothers first appear and try to first explain the curse its a bit confusing. Otherwise, I'm very much looking forward to the next in this series.

I have been a fan of the paranormal genre since I started reading when I was younger. And I have been a fan of Ms. Mathewson’s books ever since I found them by a complete fluke. When I read that this was a paranormal written by her? I couldn’t wait to start reading it, and now I have complete mixed feelings about it! On one hand, I completely LOVED this book!! Even though it’s a paranormal, it’s something that is completely different than what I have read recently and I just loved that fact about it. I enjoyed how this book was like a breath of fresh air in my reading list as of recently. It was extremely well-written, the story line was one that was just amazing, the characters were some that were very easy to love and enjoy. There was a ton of action and suspense that took place during the story that kept me on the edge of my seat because I was so drawn into the story, I didn’t want it to end! Which is what is my other mixed feeling about this story--I didn’t want it to end! And I really can’t wait for the next book in the series to be released because this story was just amazing. Once all of the pieces came together, it was a very great read for me personally. It employed all of my favorite parts to a story, and it just kept getting better and better with each page that I turned. Overall, I completely loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one to be released! *Copy bought for review* Reviewed by Crystal Marie for Crystal’s Many Reviewers

Having read the reviews, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. BUT, I have loved all of R.L.'s books. So thought it was worth the risk. And what a great surprise! A great twist on time-travel. I loved Marty and Tristin's story and am anticipating Shayne's.

I really like this author. Her books are steamy and I know I will laugh out loud several times while reading it. This one had an interesting twist and I can't wait for the next! They say "leave them wanting more" and that is just what Mathewson has done for me.
