This is definitely my favorite book of the whole series. I've read almost every one, and this is the most suspenseful, and the most exiting, too.

I loved this book! It was so suspenseful and exciting. I could not put it down. It actually almost making me mad with how suspenseful it was. Walter Farley is one of my favorite authors and he did a great job with this book.

He stalks a large magpie. The bird keeps eating happily. He gets closer. Then he's withing range. He gathers up his haunches and pounces landing squarly on the magpie. It opens it's beak but he bits it's neck before a sound can escape. -Onetail

She sees a sparrow and crouches. The sparrow is too busy eating to notice her. She takes a few steps forward and pounces. She catches the bird with her claws, then bites it's neck. She pads away with it in her jaws, careful to not scare the other birds.

*he stays silent as some of the birds go into exactly the same spot* *he sheaths his claws and slowly tiptoes to the prey* *he stays down then pounces at the group of birds in the same place* *he catches 3 sparrows and cuts two of them and bites the other one in the neck* the two sparrows are very plump... the other one is regular size...... okay.... tht will do for now.......... *walks back to camp*

Roaming across the prarie, a huge cloud of dust appears. A herd of giant brown animals seem to be the ones creating it. As they come closer, their hooves begin to shake the earth with the sound of thunder. They are the buffaloe, the very image of the prarie itself. Once the huge beasts have past and begin to slow down to eat the tall grass nearby, birds of all types gather to eat the thousands of bugs now exsposed on the surface by the stampede of hooves. Swallows, sparrows, crows, and magpies all swarm in flocks upon the churned earth. It is such a feast that the birds begin to forget about staying alert and instead focus on filling their bellies...
