Ranger Sam Burrack, U S Marine Bounty Hunters & much more!

I'm a diehard Ralph Cotton fan, and this book is just more reason why. As a writer myself, I am always amazed at how Mr. Cotton continues to come up with new fresh ideas in the Western genre. In Black Valley Riders he has two U.S. Marines turned bounty hunters putting their lives on the line to save one of their own who has fallen, not in battle but onto bad circumstances. This is the first time ever I have read a western novel with Marines in it, yet it all makes sense the way Cotton blends factual history and fiction in a way that pays honor to the early days of the Marine Corp. Even President Abraham Lincoln plays a part in the historical back-plot of the story with the true story of a politically connected spy, George Vaughn who was pardoned by Lincoln in place of a more deserving, but dishonored Marine. "Politics and paperwork have always been the bane of the corp," one seasoned Leatherneck Captain tells Ranger Burrack. A great piece of well concieved story-telling by one of my favorites.
