Overview

Now, for the first time, the New York Times bestselling serial thriller is complete in one terrifying volume. John Saul, the master of supernatural suspense, John Saul, brings to chilling life the small New England town of Blackstone—and the secrets and sins that lay buried there. . . .

From atop Blackstone's highest hill, the old Asylum casts its shadow over the village. Built in the 1890s to house the insane, the Asylum has stood vacant for decades. But now, the wrecker's ball is about to strike—and unleash an ominous evil. Strange gifts begin to appear on the doorsteps of Blackstone's finest citizens.

Each bears a mysterious history.

Each brings a horrifying power to harm.

Each reveals another thread in the suspensefully woven web of . . .

    I Also Recommend:

    Creepy Book Based around Madness

The Blackstone Chronicles is a creepy set of stories all revolving over one thing... an Asylum. The stories/series sets itself around strange occurences that being to take place as one by one, objects are left at peoples doors. Each object contains one memory of madness, from a person who was in the Asylum 40 years ago. Told by a true story teller, John Saul knows how to write a good horror book. The Blackstone Chronicles is a definite MUST for fans of both horror and John Saul. With these creepy installments, one will NOT be disappointed.

A great read. Very chilling and the combinations of the story was fluid. I would recommend to those that like scary books. Very similar to Dean Koontz

John Saul should stick to regular novels

I think this story would've been much better had he published it at one time, in one volume and forgotten the serial fad. He acknowledges in his foreword, worded differently of course, that he didn't have the cojones to do it until Stephen King published The Green Mile in serial form.

The story line is good, but very repetitive. I don't know if Saul realized that his faithful fans who were waiting for the monthly installment didn't need to be told at the beginning of every part that there was a dark figure lurking in the Asylum looking for gifts. That's pretty well established in any reader's mind from the beginning; it's the huge unanswered question of the whole book: Who is the mysterious dark figure? I also think that there didn't have to be six "gifts"; Saul could've cut the "gifts" down to three or four and the plot/suspense would not have suffered.

All in all it's a decent read, but not as good as his regular novels. The revelation of who the Asylum's dark figure is made up for the repetition.

    A Must READ

I had just recently finished reading ¿The Blackstone Chronicles, the Serial Thriller Complete in One Volume¿ written by John Saul, and I¿m still in awe. I can honestly say out of all the books I have read, this is the only one I actually enjoyed reading. I¿m at the point where I¿m getting all his other books because they¿re so good and catchy and just keep me hooked and wanting to read more. For me personally I think the book was so good because my vocabulary isn¿t all that great, and he didn¿t use ridiculous words that a lot of authors use. That just drives me crazy when I don¿t know what I¿m reading. Not only does it not want to read the book, it just confuses me and then I get frustrated, so for me, that was a strong point. Also his wording and word choices were excellent. I was able to actually feel like I was there. I could feel and sense the surroundings. I could feel the characters, as if they were really real. The one thing I thought he lacked on was at some points in the book he would write a sentence that didn¿t fit. I would read it and I would think to myself, that doesn¿t even fit into the sentence at all, it doesn¿t flow. It was only on rare occasions but overall, the book rocked and I couldn¿t of choose a better book and I think everyone should get a chance to read it, I guarantee you will enjoy it.

    HIS MASTERPIECE

I think that this is the best book that Saul has ever written. I have read all of his books, and reading about old characters like that was deeply thrilling. A MUST READ!!!-especially for all John Saul fans.

    Weak ending

I am a big fan of JOhn Saul and this series was good. I could not put the book down, however I was disapointed with the ending. I saw it coming 150 pages earlier. However still a devoted fan.

    I thought I didn't like to read

I was never a 'reader', I thought reading was a waste of time when a movie only took 2 hours, My girlfriend gave me the first in the series and asked me to read it and just to make her happy, I did,,,I figured it was short and wouldn't take up too much of my time,,,,I COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!!!! I read it through in one sitting and was begging her the next day to give me the next book!!! Thanks to The Blackstone Cronicles, I am now a 'Reader'!

    One of the best!

The Blackstone Chronicles is the first book I ever read by John Saul and now I am hooked! This story kept me turning the pages fast and I could not put this book down. As a New Englander myself this story was quite chilling. You never know what supernatural forces are lurking around the next corner!!!!
