Just a young boy. In a nomad's outfit. Herding goats on a desolate hillside of rocks above where the black water flows.
Good Evening, Ladies and Gentlemen. Christian Allman here for the USA News network. In just a few minutes there will be a White House Press briefing here at the Pentagon regarding the planned incursion into Iraq. Dubbed Operation Vulturine, the US and Allied forces have set up on an air base to run sorties out of nearby Azerbaijan. There has been talk that this was due in part to protecting national interests in the former Kirkuk-Haifa pipeline that has been being built in the area under the watchful eye of forces and countries friendly to the US and its European Allies. These sorties are going to be flown over the Kurdish state, currently full of nomadic people who are mostly goat and sheepherders, really, however, al-Quaeda freedom fighters have taken up stronghold in the Kurdish area of Iraq and are operating from base encampments along the border. Wait....I'm getting the signal that we are about to go live to the White House Press room.
At night, they fly over. They drop their bombs, sometimes with food and provisionary goods. Mostly with ills and death.
Hello. Christian Allman, coming to you live from Iraq tonight. In just a few short hours, the US and its Allied forces are set to operate another round of sorties in Operation Vulterine. Tonight's operation will be quite different from the humanitarian aid mission just a few short nights ago, when the bombs being dropped were filled with provisionary goods such as those you see here laid out in front of me. It is estimated that the c-17 food drops carried 37,500 lbs. of food into the soon to be combat zone before beginning war efforts.
We do not know if the food drops are actually getting into the hands of the people who will suffer the most from the coming Operation Vulterine, but there was a photograph being passed around the press corp base camp today that seemed to suggest that at least one drop had been successful. There was also a rumor that a riot had started in a small village in Northern Iraq, suggesting that not all aid was received in a positive manner. The outcome of the humanitarian aid pre-mission remains to be seen.
