Overview

Bleach tells the story of Ichigo Kurosaki, who is just like any other ordinary 15-year-old high school student -- except for his special ability to see ghosts. So when a teenage girl materializes through his bedroom wall, it should be no call for alarm. However, this girl, named Rukia, is a shinigami (Soul Reaper) who is hunting a Hollow (an evil spirit that consumes souls). The Hollow proceeds to attack Ichigo's family and Rukia is badly wounded. In order to defeat the evil spirit, Rukia must let Ichigo temporarily become a Soul Reaper by absorbing some of her energy. However, Ichigo inadvertently ends up with all of Rukia's powers and after defeating the Hollow, she informs Ichigo that since she has relinquished all her powers, he must now take on all the responsibilities of a Soul Reaper until she can figure out how to get her powers back. Now this 15-year-old high school student begins a brand new vocation as a hyperkinetic, all-purpose ghost buster. With enough attitude to make a grown demon blush, Ichigo and crew are cleaning up the afterlife, one ghoul at a time.

Ichigo Kurosaki, the hero of Bleach, has a serious attitude problem. Maybe it's because he's 15 years old; maybe it's because of his bright orange hair, which has earned him the nickname of "Strawberry"; or maybe it's because he's always being pestered by dead people. Strawberry can see ghosts, which is no big deal until the night he's visited by the girl dressed in black who tells him that a Hollow is coming to eat his family. Hollows, just in case you didn't know, are evil spirits that prey upon the souls of both the dead and the living. The girl dressed in black is a Soul Reaper, and during the course of her battle with the aforementioned Hollow she is badly injured and forced to loan Strawberry her powers. When the loan turns out to be permanent, Strawberry is stuck with the job of being a Soul Reaper. This entails dressing in black robes and slicing up Hollows with Zanpaku-To Ghost Cutter, the sword so big it has its own name. Unfortunately, Strawberry's disdain for the traditional method of fighting Hollows—sneaking up behind them and hitting them in the head—in favor of hand-to-hand combat means that he may soon experience the spirit world firsthand. Bleach is an enjoyable, fast-paced read; there is lots of action and comic book violence, along with some mild vulgarity. Strawberry is a likable character who will appeal to 15-year-olds everywhere.     One of the Best

    Awesome series that is actually still running in Japan. This is the first book into a great adventure. I've watched the show and this is right in line with that. The Manga expands on the show by allowing for a more adult audience. It is backwards reading (manga style) and took a couple pages to get used to after that it was a page turner. If you are into anime and haven't tried this series, it is a must buy. Well written and illustrated. My friend recommended it to me and I haven't been able to get enough since then. Warning though you may get hooked.

    Freakin awesome

    Wish to read the next one.

    If you like action-type manga that can be serious when it's time to be serious and funny when it's appropriate, then this is definitely for you. The characters are fairly realistic to a point without letting it get in the way of what's important. All in all, a pretty well made manga. Read it yourself though, don't just take my word for it.

    A Great Mainstream Manga series

    Even though I don¿t normally go for popular manga, Shounen Jump Manga has some of the best titles out there. And, Bleach is probably the best title Shounen Jump currently has. Its great action series that can be enjoyed by both boys and girls, young and old. It has a perfect combination of action and humor to keep you reading. The artwork is great! Usually Shounen manga's artwork isn¿t that great. But Tite Kubo dose an excellent Job of drawing out a great story! The characters are great! You are bound to find one you become really attached to that you cheer for when they fight. Bleach is one of the best Shounen manga out there! Please don¿t pass it up because its popular (some people do that) this manga is worth every minute to read.

    Bleach is.....

    Bleach vol .1 is a great beginning to a great series. The plot and originality of this book is fantastic. I would suggest borrowing it from a friend because you'll probably only read it once (it only takes a couple minutes to read, even if your a slow reader) I highly recommend this series to anyone. I also recommend the Naruto series, and any other series made by Shonen Jump.

    good

    At first i thought it was going to be stupid but i liked it and i am probally going to get the vol 1-21 when it comes out, and the hard cover is great but I would not recommend it if you already have vol 1.

    My great reveiw for Blech.

    I thought that Bleach is a great manga book. By the way, manga is pronnounced mon-ga. Anyway, I thought Bleach is one of the greatest manga i've ever owned. Along with the other 117, yes, one- hundred seventeen that I own.A short summary: Ichigo, Bleach's main character is able to see ghosts, and one day a soul reaper come through his window and then a monster attacks them and Ichigo takes the soul reapers powers ' not on purpose'in order to save his family, and Ichigo becomes a soul reaper. So now Ichigo has to take the job of a soul reaper. So I hope that you read Bleach!!!!!!!!

    I bought Vol. 1 a while back to see how I liked the series, and since then have been hoping Vol. 2 and every one after it will soon be in my collection. The fight scenes are bloody, but not gratuitously so. Unlike some other 'fighting' manga I've read (*cough* Beet the Vandel Buster) the characters are unique and real, and the storyline is suspenseful and gripping. The anime is great, too )

    Bleach! Yes?

    I hate anime. I have never nor did I think I would ever like animes. But some how I got into the show by a friend of mine and I loved it. I never thought I would be reading a manga. But what do you know? I am. I have seen a lot of the episodes so I need to get cought up in the manga because I know whats going to happen, but wow. I read this one and now I want to read them all. Bleach is just, good.

    Well, this book is very, very good.when I started reading this book I just had to know what happened next. It is a asome book if you like action,anime,manga and all that kind of suff.I do not want to spoil the book ,but all you have to know that it is just a great series and that you will enjoy it once you start reading it.

    Great!

    A wonderful book if you love action and don't mind violence. It's a incredably funny book/series that you can read over and over and over again. The characters all have distinct personalities with quirky traits and sense of humor. VERY high on action and takes a bit od thinking to understand. With interesting turns a shocking misconseptions it keeps you hooked and leaves you wanting more.

    Bleach is the BEST Manga ever!!!!! Bleach is smart, Humorius and has lots of action 'with some blood':' Bleach is my favorite manga thus far. I highly recomend it for anyone who reads manga.
