That special "something" that makes a quilt pop!

Ever wonder what you could do to make a quilt extra special? After all, it's a great quilt; you made it but it just needs "something" to make it pop. Grab a copy of Blended Borders and you will have your answer.

For example, you have made a large block quilt and the final border is this wonderful large print flower. What would happen if you fussy cut out those large flowers/leaves and sewed then across the final two borders? It would look like the flowers had "grown over" the borders and would add that something the quilt needed.

The author takes seven pages to explain this "blended" edge in more detail. She shows how to/what to cut out for this blended edge. She makes the appliques raw edged but for me and the using and washing my quilts get, I will sew a light weight fabric on the front side of the applique, cut a small slit in this fabric and turn the applique right side out. That way when I stitch the applique on, the will be no raw edges to ravel and no need to do very close to the edge stitching.

Each project, of which there are five, has a full color photo with finished block and quilt size. A small blurb is given before the materials and cutting lists are provided. Lots of colored graphics are included in the written instructions. Any tips are set off in separate colored boxes. Assembly of the blocks and the quilt are listed next and the standard "quilt as desired" is listed.

A ten-page photo gallery shows off what can be done with this blended edge technique and the final page provides a short bio about the author. I can't wait to take this to my charity guild and see what the gals will create!
