Library Journal - Library JournalThis is the second entertaining and well-written book in Algonquin's new series. Clyde Bresee's Sea Island Yankee ( LJ 5/15/86) was the first. Buck tells the story of Oxford, Georgia, a small Southern town, at the beginning of the 20th century when ``God was definitely on the job in his heaven, not too far away from Oxford, and all was right with the world.'' His is a nostalgic look at life in small-town America shortly before the country was set on its industrial course. The author presents a rich, evocative account emphasizing the everyday existence in church, school, and home. Strongly recommended for public libraries. Ron Chepesiuk, Winthrop Coll. Lib., Rock Hill, S.C.
