Overview

She doesn't need a hero. But a sexy Marine...that'll work.

Though Lauren Baxter's world is a blurry mess of colors, she has no tolerance for pity. With the help of her guide dog, Jack Sparrow, she's built a good life for herself. She has everything she wants: her PhD, a thriving counseling practice and her independence.

When she meets her new neighbor, the man's warm Texas accent and clean male scent weaken her knees. Her attraction to the former Marine is mutual and, unfortunately, a complication she doesn't need.

Gabriel Briggs carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. He has his reasons for indulging only in short-term flings, but the feisty, green-eyed Lauren makes him want to forget every one.

In a rare moment of fragility, Lauren winds up in Gabe's arms. One night together can't break their self-imposed rules, right? But when a woman from Gabe's past is murdered, the reasons he should have stayed away become painfully clear, threatening innocent lives he may not be able to save-especially Lauren's.

Warning: Contains a blind therapist who doesn't consider herself impaired; a meddling, erotic-novel-writing best friend; a hot ex-Marine with a shady past; and a loyal guide dog that howls "I love you" and is probably the sanest one of the bunch.

Blind Love by Kishan Paul was my first book by this author and I believe it is also her debut novel. I picked it up because of the interesting Blurb, as I like strong women that hold their own even in the presence of even stronger man. The authors writing is good and she definitively gives her characters enough depth to make them “real”. Even those normally unlikeable “Ex” partners leave you with an unexplainable “let’s hope she does another novel for him so he gets his HEA” feeling. In the first few chapters of the book, I found the strong woman but unfortunately, I was missing the strong man. Maybe it was my misunderstanding but when I read “Marine” of course the whole thing around “honor” was also on my mind but I would have guessed that the focus would have been more on the “strong”. Instead, this novel came too near to the cliché of the small town romance novel. Anyway around half way through the book when I was seriously considering if I would have to finish it another time as my mind was not into this kind of romance. As If the author had guessed what was on my mind – suddenly the pace of the story shifted and there were “things” added to the mix to spice it up and it became interesting after all. In total, a recommendable read for romance lovers and I will keep an eye on the next books from this author. > > > I have received this Book as an ARC from the Publisher < < < > > > In Exchange I promised an honest Review < < <

I love, love, loved this story. I am a huge fan of contemporary romance, and this was perfect. One minute I was crying, the next laughing. Lauren is a blind psychologist who is trying to prove her parents wrong by surviving on her own. She shies away from relationships because her ex husband cheated on her and then left her to be with the other woman. She has tried dating the "safe" guys who wouldn't do that to her, but she never felt that spark. She is a woman you can admire and want to be her best friend. Her smart, sassy sarcasm keeps everyone on their toes. Her best friend, Sunshine Daye, is the ideal best friend who has been by her side since they could walk. Sometimes you want to smack her, as with any best friend, but she's there when it matters and loves Lauren. The guy who moves next door, Gabe (I almost typed Babe, and WOW, is he) is an ex-Marine sniper who plans on flipping the house and leaving, but finds himself drawn in to the beauty next door and her strength and independence. He is the kind of guy that always does the right thing and you have to love him for it, even if he tries to keep some secrets that come back and bite him in the butt. The ex-husband shows up and tries to complicate things, and when Gabe becomes a murder suspect, you kind of hate Ben (the ex) a little less. Hate is a strong word. Dislike, get annoyed by... those might be more appropriate. The story is very well written, the characters are well developed, and you can tell this was a very well cared for story. I say this is a must read for any romance lover. There is a little suspense, and you'll want to keep some tissues near-by. I will definitely pick up any other story written by this author. Fans of Susan Mallery, Robyn Carr, Jennifer Bernard, and Jill Shalvis will love this novel. I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affects my opinion.

I felt an immediate connection to Lauren and loved how self sufficient she was even though she was mostly blind. I did want to smack her a few times when it came to Gabriel though! I fell in love with her guide dog Jack Sparrow, he's definitely her guardian angel and her rock to lean on. I liked how the story played out even though I did shed some tears during certain parts. And I loved the ending! I give the book 5 stars! Sarah

This novel simultaneously makes you stop & think and gives you a sweet read that you can lose yourself in. Paul has masterfully crafted a tale of love, loss, and acceptance that encompasses and crosses the boundaries set by society and brings out those set by the heart. Her unique look at life and love creates a fantastic setting for this romantic and creative tale. The well written novel is highlighted by intricate descriptions that bring everything to life. Paul’s characters are not only genuine but they’re fun as well. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. They are such strong individuals who struggle with life and everything that comes with it. Everyone is so unique & adds a great deal to the story. As much as I loved the main characters and how they were developed, but my enjoyment of the cast didn’t end there. I thoroughly enjoyed how the characters were developed from Lauren’s perspective. It gives a very different feel to the story and lets readers experience life in a different manner. This is a sweet and poignant tale that captured my heart. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

I don’t know why the suspense element surprised me as much as it did – I mean, it is spelled out in the blurb that there was a murder – I guess I wasn’t expecting it to be so involved. But I really enjoyed it. It played well into Lauren and Gabe’s issues, helping to resolve a lot of things and not seem forced. And the characters are as interesting as the storyline. I love that Lauren is independent and has a good head on her shoulders, is able to apply her brain to Gabe’s issues (not just her heart), but I also really loved that she’s human and screws up. She’s had a tough life but she hasn’t let it slow her down – sometimes to the detriment of her relationships. Gabe’s got a lot of issues too, mostly stemming from a not so great childhood. Like everyone, he’s made some choices that have long reaching impact … although his consequences are pretty severe. There were a lot of giggles and a truckload of tears, a few moments on the edge of my seat and a couple of times where my heart went pitter, which to me makes Blind Love a winner and Paul one of my new authors to watch. (Complimentary copy provided in exchange for an honest review.)

Blind Love is my first read by Kishan Paul. Lauren and Gabe's story is full of lovable characters, action, humor, drama and hot sex. Blind Love is well written and I look forward to reading more from this talented author. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

The author gives you a compelling story of life as we know it of fear of the unknown, suicide, RP, blaming one’s self for things out of our control long with so much more. She has a lot going on in the story with more than one plot. This was very well written never leaving the reader guessing as to what just happened. A wonderful reminder that people have choices and their choices are not our fault. I think so many forget this sometimes life is just so hard that people do the best they can but for them it just isn’t enough to stay in this world. To be blind from birth would be easy but to lose your site over years has just to be the worst thing to deal with. Ms. Paul writes it in a way you can feel the characters pain her sorrow and her fear. Knowing there will come a time when you have to depend on others has got to be tough. Having parents that want to protect you to a degree that they take over your life is terrible when they can’t see what they are doing. Ms. Paul shows you the emotion of being strong, giving but stubborn to make it on your own as you face the worse fear of your life. Learning to trust when you have lost all trust from a broken past. I totally loved Lauren with her sassy humor ways she isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, face the world as a woman with disabilities overcoming them and leading a pretty normal life. Even faced with obstacles she never gives up and finds ways around them. When things look the worse she looks deeper to find the facts and doesn’t go with face value. This makes Lauren a wonderful character that you can relate to and LOVE. She marches right over next door and gives pieces of her mind to a man she has never seen who smells like heaven. I loved that scene…. Gabe is a man taking the world on with a past of so much hurt. He does the best he can to help those he loves but take the blame for others actions. He feels he should have done more, been there, given more from a very young age he has had to be the giver, the one taking care of. He gives so much of his self he forgets what he needs. Going into the military seemed to be the best he could do to help those who needed him. His guilt drives him on to make a better world for those he loves. When he sees Lauren his world tilts he knows he can’t give her want she needs he isn’t good enough but there is a pull that rocks his world. He bends and gives in but does it with grace as he turns the tables on Lauren. He is just one adorable hunk of a male who is trying to find a place in life and running from love. I just adored him there was nothing about him I didn’t like. The passion and sparks start flying between these two from the beginning you can feel the pull. I love the bating back and forth between these two. The author writes in a way that you can feel the heat these two set off. Neither giving in as they match words to words and action to action totally outstanding. You have passion which is hot, ex’s wanting you back, action, thrills and suspense what else could you want. There is a lot going on in this book the author keeps your attention which makes this a page turner that gets you lost in her writing. It is a book you will not put down reading from start to finish. I started it at night read until I couldn’t keep my eyes open. If you are looking for a new author this is one you will want to check out. I can’t wait to read more from her it was a totally awesome read with a wonderful compelling story t will touch your heart and soul

One thing about romance novels that I'm a bit picky about is the slooooow development to hook a readers interest. With Blind Love it was interesting from chapter 1 and that takes talent. Kishan Paul's style reminds me of Nicholas Sparks. For being her debut novel she is already proving she has mastered the art of her genre and I can only hope this isn't the last we've seen of her. Blind Love literally had me crying, (hard to do by the way) and then laughing out loud, then yelling at the characters, then sighing in utter satisfaction. This was a delicious story and once just isn't enough for me. I recommend the book and can't say I think anyone will walk away disappointed. Wonderful.

Lauren Baxter is a strong independent women with her PhD in counseling. With her life seeming to be in order she is missing a couple things...the big one being she is blind. She can see some colors and blob like shapes but this will eventually fade to darkness. Also being divorced she has her guard up. Lauren's guide dog Jack Sparrow is her constant companion. She leans on his "shoulder" to cry or to comfort her. He proves this by howling "I Love You". But when the mysterious Gabriel Briggs moves in next door she is drawn to him. But he has secrets that he is not willing to share for the fear she will run for the hills. Will both their secrets/issues be their downfalls or will Gabes past bring danger. Only time will tell. This was a very enjoyable book to read. There is a mix of many different things going on in this book to keep you on your toes. And Sunny, Lauren's best friend, gives us the perfect amount of humor and sarcasm.
