Overview

The hit poetry collection from the creative force behind The Smashing Pumpkins

Having risen to fame during the grunge era in the early nineties, Billy Corgan is among the most respected figures of the alternative rock world—a visionary artist who, more than a decade later, still commands a devoted following. Long admired for his evocative songwriting, Corgan embarks on a deeper exploration of literary terrain as a poet. Full of “the regretful melancholy of his music [and] the rhythmic, angular wordplay of his best Pumpkins lyrics” (Jeff Vrabel, Chicago Sun-Times), the poems in this collection form an imagistic journey through the intensely personal as Corgan throws into sharp relief issues of love, loss, identity, and loyalty. Crafted with a thoughtful and cadenced approach that shares the same allegiance to thunder and quiet found in his music, these writings further solidify Corgan’s place as the voice of a generation.

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
In the mid-'90s, Billy Corgan earned a sizable niche in rock history with his work as the frontman/lyricist of the Smashing Pumpkins. Recently, the alternative rock icon has returned as a poet and spoken-word performer. Blinking with Fists, is his first collection of verse.
From the Publisher
"Never just the spectator, Corgan transforms his world into the palpable lyrical beauty of the heartbreak of one who cannot turn away, allowing us to get as close as we dare without blinking." —J. T. LeRoy, author of Sarah and The Heart Is Deceitful Above All Things

    Excited

Although only a high-schooler,and not a poetry critic, I am a huge Smashing Pumpkins fan. I know many find Corgan's poetry mediocre at best, but I am very touched by his poetry. His poetry seems very.....off...at some times. But if you read, sit, and then contemplate, it appears to unravel it's own mysteries to you. I am very glad to have spent some of my hard -earned money on this piece of art.

    Outstanding

This book was a whole life opening experience, i've never read anything like it. I seriously and honostly could say, that if this book were a man, i'd out blown marry it. That is how good the book was to me. And the Smashing Pumpkins fan I am myself. I think that everyone needs to read this book. Along with this book, he has many great songs from either Smashing Pumpkins or Zwan. And now that his solo album is coming out on june 21.... You'll want to get this book even more, because it desribes him self inside and out, and I wish he would come out with more.

    TheClassicZero`s Review

I think Billy`s 'Blinking with Fists' is a very vivid reflection of what was with the Pumpkins, and through his rough times dealing with depression.. I, being an enormous Pumpkins fan myself as well as soul Billy fan considering theres too many projects to name, can see the relation of what he is writing between what he has said in interviews and expressed to fans at concerts.. I think we ALL as fans have been exposed to the real Billy that we all have been waiting to be exposed to now.. Because now there are no gimics no cover stories, no media and no lies... just billy telling his story the way it needs to be told, truthfully and from him.. in the best way he knows how... Well-done Billy can`t wait for the all the others to come out...

    Disappointed

I write this only because I was so very disappointed. With all do respect to Billy Corgan the songwriter, writing songs and writing poetry are very different. Rarely is a writer capable of exceling in both environments. Mr. Corgan's words work beautifully with music, but not as poetry. As a person who has studied poetry in a fair amount of depth, I was disappointed with predictable, elementary titles such as, 'Poetry of my Heart.' In additions to unimpressive titles, Blinking with Fists was supplied with a healthy amount of examples of what literature students are trained not to do when writing poetry. Perhaps,it is simply a matter of him finding his poetic style.

    Comeback Corgan

This is beautiful. A lot of reflection upon what seems to be friends lost or promises un-kept, these angst-ridden proses could very well reflect the struggling time with the breakup of two bands, and the regret of trusting fellow musicians. There is also much of the typical heart-broken, overdramatic Billy whom we all know and love. Very different from his lyrics, except the b-sides off Pisces Iscariot. More like stream of consciousness rather than substantial, technical poetry. But when has Billy ever been considered technical? Thank you, Mr. Corgan, for once again entertaining us with your gift of exquisiteness.
