I always enjoy a good football romance and this is the perfect time to read one! Blitzing Emily is the first book in a new series called Love and Football by Julie Brannagh. Emily Hamilton is an opera singer who does a favor for her sister Amy and delivers a big bouquet of balloons, candy and a teddy bear to Brandon McKenna, player for the Seattle Sharks. During the delivery she takes a header on the icy parking lot thanks to Brandon and ends up with a concussion and a temporary roommate. Due to a mistake at the hospital, the media thinks they are engaged and so they enter into a "fake engagement". Yes, it's been done before but this was a delightful story that keeps your attention from first page to last. Emily is a sassy diva who knows nothing about football and Brandon is an infamous "horn dog" who needs to clean up his image. He is also funny and smart and basically a gentleman. They are perfect for each other but past baggage rears its ugly head and problems occur. Both Emily and Brandon have to come to grips with past and present mistakes before they can get their hearts desire. There is just the right amount of spice blended with humor to make this story really enjoyable. This is an excellent debut novel from an author who I look forward to reading more from in the future. Her next book, Rushing Amy, is due out in February with a third book later in the spring.

As a fan of sports-themed romances I was immediately drawn to this story and its charming hero, entertaining cast of secondary characters and enjoyable storyline that though familiar was still satisfying. From its slowly building romance to the witty banter between two very opposite characters this was a fun journey to HEA that leaves me looking forward to the next installment. Brandon's exactly what you picture a star football player to be.....charming, handsome, a bit of an egotist, and definitely popular with the ladies. He's not attracted to Emily at first but when a misunderstanding leaves them engaged he realizes how good of a boost it is to his career and for one month they spend lots of time together before their "break-up". During this time we see a sweet Brandon in his interactions with Emily and I found her more likable in his presence. Ultimately Brandon was an enjoyable, if predictable, hero who won me over as he slowly learned the importance of substance over style. As an opera singer, Emily is a bit of a diva. She has a bit of an ego but when it comes to her sister she'll do anything. Her love for her sister leads to a chance encounter that changes her life forever as she crashes into and becomes "engaged" to the playful Brandon. Even though I enjoyed her and Brandon together, I never really warmed up to her. I found her a bit too serious and hard-headed at times. In his presence though she became more fun and I could see the freeing and naughty nature being with Brandon gave her. Their relationship evolved from friends to lovers which allowed plenty of time for their bond to grow. Their sexual encounters were hot but not steamy with not much time spent scorching up the sheets though. Roadblocks intruded on their burgeoning relationship courtesy of an unhappy ex and family who think they know what's best. This led to a drawn out conclusion that caused me to lose interest for a bit until Emily's sister made her realize what's really important. On a whole though this was a fun story. It was a comfort read that was predictable but guaranteed me a HEA that was immensely satisfying. The secondary cast of characters was equally strong and have me greatly anticipating the next installment in this series and another fine addition to the sports romance genre.

Blitzing Emily (Love and Football #1) by Julie Brannagh  4 of 5 stars Opera Diva, Emily Hamilton, helps her sister, Amy, out by making a Valentine delivery to the Seattle Shark’s headquarters.   NFL star, Brandon McKenna, is annoyed when he sees balloons with his name on them being delivered to the stadium from his stalker ex-girlfriend.  He startles the delivery person who falls, getting a concussion.  Feeling responsible he takes her to the emergency room.    Only family is allowed with the patients, so the nurse calls Brandon Emily’s fiancé.  The next thing they know the rumor spread making the news.  Discovering that being “engaged” is helping both of their careers the two decide to play along for a month and then stage a break up.  Blitzing Emily is a really cute story.  It is fun and hard to put down.  These two opposites make a fantastic pair. The more they learn about each other; they discover they are good for each other. I love the bantering dialog between Emily and Brandon.  Their conversations are very entertaining and will have you laughing. Julie Brannagh did a great job with this story.  After reading the preview of book Two, Rushing Amy, I am intrigued to read the next book.   I have a feeling this is going to be a successful series. The beginning of the Love and Football Series. And what a beginning! Love, fireworks, family shenanigans, it has it all. I enjoyed every word on every page, and I highly recommend Blitzing Emily, because Brandon sure did that, he blitzed Emily, letting her know every second how much she meant to him, even if she didn't believe it, and sometimes fought it. Book#1 is followed up by at least 3 others, and I've read each one! Very well worth it series! I can't wait till book #4 comes out, and hopefully more than that. Julie Brannagh is a very gifted writer!

This fun, sexy and romantic book took two people from totally different worlds and put them them together in a way that was incredibly charming. NFL star and notorious playboy Brandon and opera diva Emily have a perfect meet-cute as she attempts to deliver a ridiculous Valentine's gift from his ex to him. Well maybe not-so-perfect since it lands her in the hospital and leaves him masquerading as her fiancé so she's not dealing with it all alone, but it was a great way for these two characters to be introduced to one another. After their fake engagement makes the news, the benefits to both his and her career are apparent and they decided to stick with it for a month. A month stretches into longer, the fake engagement leads to friends with benefits and eventually some real feelings and they each find themselves face-to-face with something they weren't looking for, but find increasingly difficult to deny.  Emily was a strong and likable character. She was closed off to the possibility of love thanks to her jerk of an ex. It was a little difficult to relate with someone whose career was an opera diva, with a female that knew nothing about football, but I still liked her. Brandon was hot and sexy and had a genuinely good heart underneath that player (football and otherwise) exterior. They had a ton of chemistry right from the start and I enjoyed how their relationship grew slowly, naturally, while they maintained their fake engagement. I couldn't help but root for them to find something real together... and admit it.  The only bad thing about this book was that it was just a little longer than I thought it needed to be for a light and fluffy romance. I enjoyed the writer's style and I liked the characters, but by the time I made it halfway through, even I was anxious for it to get the show on the road, so to speak. It left me with a big smile on my face though, so I suppose it was all worth it. If I gave half stars, this would be a 3.5. :)

This is the First Book in a new Love and Football Series and it is a real winner!!! PLEASE read this one first because Book Two follows the story line and both are really great reads... Quick, funny, at times a little sad, well written and fast paced I loved both of the stories of two sisters and their search for the men of their dreams... This is Emily and Brandon's story and I loved them both... Supporting characters are also very important to the story... Don't worry if you are not a football fan because that doesn't even come into play here... Read and enjoy!!! Book Three will be out in May and the title is Catching Cameron...

I don't even know where to start on this book.  It was fantastic!!  I sat down and read the entire book in less than 24 hours.  It was so so so good.  Emily goes to deliver some balloons for her sisters floral shop and ends up falling down and hurting herself.  But Brandon is helping her through it all by staying with her until the rumor starts that they are engaged.  It can only get worse before it gets better by staying engaged to keep the problems behind them right??  This is a book you need to pick up and check out!

This is my first book by this author, and its a good one, although it has a hokey ending. Very real, likable characters, decent storyline, plenty of chemistry. I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book in the series.
