Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
There are millions of blogs, but only a tiny fraction have "hit the big time," i.e., built real audiences and influence, sometimes even earned real money. If you'd like to do any of those things, learn from the folks who've already done them. This book interviews 30 "blogging heroes" -- and, through them, it delivers insights you won't find anywhere else.

You'll meet welcome voices like Dave Taylor, whose computing help blog now attracts a million visitors a month. Here's Peter Rojas, who built Engadget into one of the Web's premier sites for the electronic gizmo freaks among us. Here's LifeHacker's Gina Trapani, whose personal productivity site's twice been honored by Time magazine. Their advice? Solid and wide-ranging, touching everything from self-promotion to software tools, finding your focus to fixing your foul-ups. The net result: a book capable of inspiring (or reinspiring) just about any blogger. Bill Camarda, from the January 2008 Read Only

Meet the Author

Michael A. Banks has written more than forty books, including the bestseller Crosley: Two Brothers and a Business Empire that Transformed the Nation. Online since 1979, he wrote some of the first hands-on guides introducing people to the online world and such services as CompuServe, AOL, and Prodigy, as well as the pre-Web Internet. He has also chronicled online activities for Windows magazine, Computer Shopper, PCMagazine, PC World, BYTE, and other publications.
An enthusiastic blogger, Banks has participated in online communities for more than a quarter-century. He sees blogging as the cottage industry of the 21st century, and foresees a variety of new Internet-based business categories changing the shape of business over the next decade.

    An Unexpected Treat

"Blogging Heroes" is one of those rare reads that takes you completely by surprise. I had purchased this book hoping to get a few tips and quite honestly was not expecting too much. By the conclusion though I have walked away much smarter about the topic of blogging - who the major players are and how to create, maintain, or grow a successful blog. The author provides a great formula for his book - he interviews 30 people known for blogging, provides a description of their background and work, asks them a series of questions concerning success factors and challenges, and highlights each interview at the end of each chapter. From this I was able to get an overview of blogging, who the major contributors are in diverse subject matter, identify success trends that I plan to use on my blog, and finally receive a list of great blogs and books which were presented in the book. Definitely worth the price and time to read - recommended.
