    I Also Recommend:

    A great tie-in to the Blood+ manga

After receiving volumes 1-3 of Blood+ for Christmas, I was hooked. But, after purchasing volumes 4 and 5, and finishing the series, I found myself hungry for more chiropteran-hunting.

That's where Blood+ Adagio comes in. Set on the eve of the Russian Revolution, it tells a story different from the one in the history books with Saya and Hagi arriving to take care of a chiropteran problem at the royal family's summer home. Though things do not really end up going as planned for the two as mistakes are made and Saya questions why she has to kill.

The art work is a tad different from the Blood+ manga series, but the artist and writer, Kumiko Suekane, still does an excellent job of portraying the characters. The story is riveting and as the reader, you quickly find yourself pulled in and unable to put the book down. With Saya and Hagi facing doubts about what it means to work under Red Shield and hunt down Diva, it definitely adds a touch of humanism to the characters. Expect Hagi to have a more upfront role than he had in the Blood+ manga while still being the ever-faithful Chevalier to Saya. Meanwhile, Saya is not quite as certain of herself as she was in the Blood+ manga and shows more emotion in terms of how killing makes her really feel. The other characters and their motives help to create a story of intrigue and plots as they attempt to gain what they want. Be advised, not everyone is as they seem.

I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone that enjoyed the original Blood+ manga. Kumiko Suekane does an excellent job in this musically-title spin-off that would be a great addition to anyone's manga collection. I also recommend Blood+ Adagio volume 2 to get the rest of the story.
