Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The violent rise and precipitous fall of the Philadelphia/Atlantic City Mafia family led by the bloodthirsty Nicky Scarfo has received extensive coverage in Joseph Salerno and Stephen J. Rivele's The Plumber ( LJ 1/90), Donald W. Cox's Mafia Wipeout ( LJ 2/15/90), and Frank Friel and John Guinther's Breaking the Mob ( LJ 6/15/90). Journalist Anastasia's riveting account is based primarily on his interviews with Scarfo associate Nick Caramandi, a confessed murderer and extortionist-turned-government witness who helped convict the entire Scarfo hierarchy. His story rings true, and it is one of treachery and viciousness, all blood and no honor. Easily the best of the Scarfo mob books, it is recommended for organized crime collections.--Gregor A. Preston, Univ. of California Lib., Davis

    Excellent Book!

The story of Nicky 'the Crow' Caramandi from his days as a small time con man on the streets of South Philadelphia to his days as a 'made' member of the Bruno/Scarfo mob. A must for any Philadelphia mob enthusiast. Behind the scenes information on all the South Philly mob hits, including Angelo Bruno and Philip 'Chicken man' Testa. Also, includes information on the extortion scandal involving Philadelphia City councilman, Lelong Beloff, and his ties to the mob. Excellent Book!!

    Repetitive Read

In George Anastasia's book Blood and Honor, he tells a story of life with the Scarfo Mob. Anastasia's main character Nick Caramandi tells the tale of before he was a made member, how he had to murder various people to become a member, and how he fell from the safety of the "family". The trials and tribulations of the mob's felonious lifestyle are quite interesting. You learn about how the workings of the mob such as how the power hierarchy is corrupt, about counterfeiting, made members, and contracts to kill. This book is very repetitive while talking about the actions of the mob. You can get the gist of the whole book in the first few chapters so after that, it's kind of a boring read. If you're not really into the mob, then I would not recommend this book.
