In the fifth book of "The Demonata" series, gruesome nightmares plague teen Grubbs Grady. These dreams feature distorted scenes of demons murdering his family and massacring an entire movie set, both of which he witnessed. As he processes these past events, Grubbs also struggles with the possibility that, like his sister, he may be a werewolf. The development of strange magical abilities, the discovery of a secret tunnel into the demonic world, and the death of his best friend force Grubbs to seek out the help of both his uncle and Juni Swan, a strange friend from the past who suddenly reappears in his life. Overwhelmed and stressed, Grubbs does not know who to trust in his battle to stay human and away from the demonic world he previously encountered. While the plot is entertaining for fans of the series, Grubbs' voice seems too adult and old-fashioned at times. Clichéd phrases make the writing weak and predictable. Additionally, the choice to end the text in the middle of the climax prevents this book from standing on its own and leaves the reader unsatisfied. Reviewer: Melissa Joy Adams

I have just read the fifth book in The Demonata series named Blood Beast. The main character would be Grubitsch Grady. This book is about a boy who has been through a whole lot but is pushed to his limits when he finds out that it is possible that he has the curse of becoming a werewolf! Then on top of that he and his friends discover a hidden cave and in a tragic accident one of his friends dies. Or so he thinks it's an accident. After an urgent discussion he finds out that it isn't a normal cave, it is a portal to the demonic dimension, and the only way to open it is to have a sacrifice.
I think it would, and is, very hard to relate to Grubbs Grady because how many people do you know have turned into a werewolf? But I think that in his personality he is like everyone else, when there's trouble coming he gets scared and even sometimes would even back down.
I recommend this book to everyone and anyone that wants to try it. It isn't to gory but has a lot of action and surprise in it.

It is mostly about the Grubbs family curse, and Lord Loss (a demon master). The mages and diciples have to cross over to the demon universe and keep the demons from crossing to our world. Grubbs is finding that he has alot of magical powers in his world where he should have powers if he was just a mage. But he hides his powers from Derivish and the diciples. In this book there is many twists and thrilling turns!
If you like the Cirque du Freak series you need to read this book!
After four thrilling novels featuring Grubbs Grady and his adventures with his crazy but caring uncle, his half-brother, Bill-E, and all the demons and monsters he's had to face (especially the one who took his parents away from him), Grubbs is back.
And this time he discovers that the only monster he has to face is himself.
Grubbs begins to have nightmares, ones with him covered in blood and being attacked by his late sister. But whenever he wakes up, he shrugs them aside, not thinking twice about them, most likely because he just doesn't want to know what they mean.
Aside from his sudden attraction to the moon and the need to howl, Grubbs has other problems on his mind. Like the differences between his new best friend, Loch, and his old good friend, now turned brother, Bill-E. Once Loch entered the picture, Grubbs just doesn't seem to have time for his first true friend and it's killing him inside, ironically. And the horrifying issues that attending school brings just don't make it any better.
Grubbs needs to get his priorities straight, especially the one dealing with him turning into a vicious monster, before it takes over and makes everything much worse.
With this fifth installment of THE DEMONATA series, fans will not be disappointed in this very thrilling, freaky, and funny novel about everyone's favorite character, Grubbs. With an ending that will drive you crazy, we can all say that Darren Shan has done it again!

Darren Shan is quite the writer and loved his Cirque du Freak series about the vampiric adventures of Darren Shan. This continues in the Grubbs Grady storyline from Lord Loss and Slawter but Demon Thief is a prequel involving a young Dervish. After the events of Slawter, Grubbs is fighting the wolf in him with help from his uncle Dervish and Bill E. One day Grubbs, Bill E and Loch go treasure hunting and find a cave. There starts yet another series of unfortunate events. Not one but two familiar faces appear and the ending was crazy with one hell of a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next book Demon Apocalypse, even the title and cover of the book looks totally awesome. The book was pretty good and love werewolfs. My favorite in the series is this, Lord Loss, Slawter, Demon Thief and Blood Beast. Bec wasn't that good but its important when its mentioned in Blood Beast.

Blood Beast by Darren Shan is a terrifying, non-stop, suspensful book about a young Grubbs Grady who is going through his family curse lycanthropy, just like his sister Gretchen Grady and his younger brother Billy. Grubbs and his friends Billy Spleen and Loch Grissel are going on an adventure to find Lord Sheftree's gold. On their adventure they find a mysterious, magical cave, it is a place of extremely powerful magic. Loch and Billy are climbing up one of the walls to see who can get to the top the fastest, when something goes terribly wrong and Loch falls to his horrible death. While the two boys are doing this, Grubbs is changing into a werewolf right there. He fights it off with the use of his magical powers, but it's a close call. After his good friends death Grubbs internal fight with the beast with in still rages on. Dervish Grady, Grubbs' uncle, feels that he can't help Grubbs anymore so he calls in the lambs, the family's exterminators. Grubbs finds out and he runs away with Juni Swan, because she feels that all is not lost with young Grubbs. After running away they got on a plane, and something Grubbs never thought in his wildest dreams happend. Lord Loss and his accomplisses, Vein and other demons, are also on the plane. Grubbs does not believe it, who could have summoned them, right as he asks himself this question Juni Swan steps out from behind her master. Grubbs can't believe what is happening to him.

Ive read almost all of Darren Shans work and Ive loved most of it. Reading Lord Loss and Demon Thief in the matter of a day, then moving to Cirque de Freak. But I gotta say...When Blood Beast came out, I was dissapointed. Usually Darren's books are fast, rivoting, and full of twists. Blood Beast was slow to begin with. Yes, it picked up towards the end, but in the middle I found I had to take breaks and read something else for entertainment. I give it a 4 because it's gory, the characters are real, and it's plenty suspenseful. Good job, but better luck next time.

This story is so far probably one of the best of the Demonata series. Darren Shan is an excellent author, and he is great at horror and all the other scary stuff. This book really hit the spot and sent shivers down my spine. I cannot wait for the sixth book, Demon Apocalypse, to come out. Rock on Darren!!!

Blood Beast. DO you think this sounds gory, or not? I thought it was but not towards the end. I cannot beleive Darren SHan killed off different people. I was suprised at how disgusting the ending was, but i finished it with a grin on my face and determination to get my hands on the next book, Demon Apocalypse in the series. Let me tell you, Blood Beast leaves you on a HUGE cliffhanger, and i will reccomend you read all of the previous Demonata books before this. If not you will be in dark water. I liked that the author had switched it back into our time, not 400 AD like in Bec, book four in the Demonata series. The book takes place a year after the chaos of Slawter, where everything seems normal for a while. WHen one dies, an unexpected reunion with a friend helps them take on Grubb's lycanthropy curse, which has run through his family tree for centuries. The book focuses partly on school, and other teenage problems. The book went very slow until the end, when all of the suspenseful action started taking place. Once again, a book to die for.

Overview
"Locked inside Dervish's study. Breath coming quickly, raggedly. Trembling wildly. I still feel sick and dizzy, but maybe that's fear. I force myself to breathe normally, evenly. When I'm in control, I study my reflection, looking for telltale signs. Am I turning into a werewolf? I don't know..."Grubbs Grady has so far escaped the family curse, but when he begins to experience alarming symptoms at the onset of the full moon, he is scared that the jaws of fate are opening and about to swallow him whole.
He has cheated death, defeated demons, moved on with his life. But Grubbs is ...
