A very short short. Seven pages, written for 3rd grade

Very short, too short to develop the characters. Avoid this if you graduated from 2nd grade.

    Doesn't make sense

This book is so short it doesn't make sense. Even the picture on the cover is wrong. What kind of body armor is that?

A fun homage to Modesty Blaise, Leigh Brackett and others

We recently lost Peter O'Donnell, the creator of Modesty Blaise, so it is no surprise that tributes or homages would appear after this sad event.

These stories appear to be a mash-up of sort of a Modesty Blaise-style partnership, and the science fantasy of times past set in the Solar System, when people could walk freely on the surface of planets, and find strange ancient races, and magical superscience. Such as Edgar Rice Burroughs, for example. Although this is rather more modern, owing somewhat more to Marvel comics than old magazine serials.

An original idea, and definitely not fine writing, but a nice find for those of us shedding a tear at the passing of a more than fine writer, in Peter O'Donnell.

    Not great, but okay

"Blood Demons of Titan" is a short story. The two main characters had fought "demons" prior to the reader entering the scene. Although, no demon fighting actually happens during this episode. But there is some "blood" at the end, and "Titan" is mentioned, so the title is not totally misleading. It is just a bit inaccurate.

However, the cover has absolutely nothing to with the plot. Probably, the picture was chosen because it looked "cool". So, if you picked this work up based on the cover, do not bother. The old adage is true here: do not judge a book by its cover (or its title, in this case).

The storyline is too brief. It is mostly a character introduction piece, that is meant to lead the reader into buying the next episode of a series. It is not the best way to start a series, but you must begin somewhere. Why not here?

Plot summary: The lead male and female are covered in body armor and some old dead demon goo on an alien planet far away from Earth. They tease each other, a lot. Later on, they battle an evil wizard who has exsaguinated at least one victim. Finally, after lots of friendly teasing, they actually fight the bad guy. More taunts, followed by rescue, then clean-up time. The teasing continues on and on. The end.

I have a few issues with the writing. To start, the character names are overly complicated. For example, I am not even sure how to pronounce the lead female's name. Then, there are the unnecessarily long words.

As an author, you should not use "big words" in a story without consulting a dictionary or Google for their definitions. For example, a "necrometer" is a device that measures the whole or individual parts of a dead body. It is not a watch, or other time-telling object. "Thermauforming" is not a word, and it is never explained in the context of the story. However, thermoforming is a word that describes the process by which plastic is used to shrink-wrap something.

Finally, there is too much emphasis on gratuitous descriptions, and overdone grade school teasing. Unfortunately, there is very little actual action written into this sci-fi & fantasy short story. It could have been so much better. At least, I grew to kind of like the two main characters, even if they acted like weird pre-teens most of the time.

This author has potential, but it does not appear until near the end of the story. The end was okay, but predictable. I will check out a few more stories by this author, just to make sure that this was not written on a "bad hair day".
