Overview

Sunny and Rayne McDonald have had their lives turned upside down thanks to the Blood Coven. But when the past itself is changed, the sisters will do anything to get back what they’ve lost…

After making a deal with the devil, Rayne and her twin sister, Sunny, have been given the chance to go back in time—to prevent that fateful night when Sunny was bitten by Magnus from ever happening. But while Sunny has been offered a vampire-free existence, she finds she doesn’t want to live without Magnus by her side. And although Rayne puts up a stoic front, she secretly wishes that the vampire Jareth was back in her arms.

To reclaim their lives, Sunny and Rayne team up to figure out a way to change history for the better. Problem is, Jareth and Magnus aren’t all that eager to help two unfamiliar girls who somehow know everything about their vampiric organization. Now, if the twins can’t get the boys on their side, history may spiral out of control—destroying not only the Blood Coven, but quite possibly the entire human race...

Tansytail fidgeted in her sleep, her new nest in StarClan nestled neatly beneath a juniper bush. Her paws twitched feverently as she relived her last moments over and over. Finally, her dream changed, sending her spirit down to view her beloved clan.
She stumbled into the middle of the clearing, her dappled pelt only a swirling mix of stardust. Restless warriors milled around her in the leafgreen heat, the scorching sun piercing the fine layer of dirt covering the ashen clearing, heating the stone below it to an almost unbearable temperature.
She gasped as a dark-pelted warrior walked straight through her. "Fallowseed!" She exclaimed.
Fallowseed kept walking, her tail dragging limply through the dusty soil.
"I-I'm really dead, aren't I?" Tansytail muttered to no one in particular.
She looked around at the camp a the warriors worked tirelessly to rebuild it. A blackened log was laying against the apprentices' den, crushing the bramble bush. The nursery, once a safehaven for queens and their kits, was nothing more than a few crumbling twigs.
She spotted Ryepelt, her denmate while in the nursery, resting in the shadow of the Great Beech, her tail flicking flies away lazily from her cream tabby fur. Her kits, Owlkit and Petalkit, played not too far away, their similar cream coats almost blackened to the point of being gray from the ashes.
At Ryepelt's belly, suckling, Tansytail gaped in joy, were two tiny kits, ones pelt a mirage of leaf-fall colors, the other's, a vivid blaze of golden-ginger.
"My kits. . ." She murmured happily, her eyes gowing teary. She padded over and gently stroked her starry tail over their small backs.
As if reacting to their mother's touch, the pair squirmed, mewling. Ryepelt lapped at their head fur, "Shh, my sweets, Goldenclaw will be back soon."
Tansytail's heart leaped. -Goldenclaw was alive!- She turned to the camp entrance, and as if on cue, her mate's large golden tabby shoulders pushed through the briar tunnel, a limp, scrawny squirrel in his jaws. His best friends, Crowtail and Pebblestep followed, each only offering a meager bit of prey.
Goldenclaw placed the squirrel on the small fresh-kill pile and padded over to Ryepelt, his eyes glimmering with sadness. "If only Tansytail were here. . ." He whispered mournfully.
"But I am!" Tansytail wanted to shout, but she knew he wouldn't hear.
"They need names," Ryepelt said gently, gazing at Goldenclaw.
The tabby tom sighed, "I know." He watched his kits feed, thinking. He touched the tip of his tail to the tortoiseshell she-kit, "Tansykit." His voice trembled slightly. "And Firekit," he named the golden-ginger tom-kit.
Ryepelt nodded. "They're perfect."
Tansytail watched with anguish. She bowed her head and closed her eyes; she felt herself begin to disappear, jolting awake suddenly in her nest in StarClan.
"Take good care of them, Ryepelt. . ." She whispered.

Reviewed by Janessa, Age 15 for Citybook Review Making a deal with the devil doesn’t sound like it could end with the results being looked for, and that is just what happens when Rayne and Sunny decide to jump back in time to the night Magnus bit Sunny and try to prevent it. Sunny soon realizes she made a mistake and doesn’t want to live without Magnus in her life, and it is now up to Rayne and Sunny to figure out how to change history towards their advantage or face the Blood Coven and possibly the world’s demise. Do the girls have what it takes to fix their mistake and make the future even better? “But I am Rayne McDonald and that makes me kick-ass in and of itself.” This book is number eight in the “Blood Coven Vampire” Series, which I have never read and is a quick read, but don’t let that fool you. The story is both action packed and endearing at the same time, and you get a real sense of friendship between the characters that breathes life into the story. You definitely do not have to read the prior books to understand this story line. Great read indeed. *This book was provided in exchange for an honest review* *You can view the original review at City Book Review & Musing with Crayolakym
