Overview

Like most seventeen year olds, Ridley Heller thought she had her future all planned out. What she wanted most in life was to get out of small town Harker. Her only goal was to keep her mouth shut and her grades high so she could win a cheerleading scholarship to Stanford. But that was before she met Bo.

In Ridley’s wildest dreams, she could never have planned for someone like Bo, for a love so intense it left her breathless. No human girl could.

A haunting stranger that watched her from afar, Bo stole Ridley’s heart from the moment she laid eyes on him. But he has secrets. Bo’s a vampire. Both his past and his present are a danger to Ridley, but the biggest threat is not her blood; it’s her heart. He’s feeding a thirst for revenge that will cost him his life, and it may already be too late.

The more darkness Ridley uncovers, the more she realizes that her life will never be the same—with or without Bo. Can she sacrifice her future and her heart for someone who has a death wish?

Meet the Author

I’m a part Northern, part Southern blend-of-a-girl that currently resides in the deep south, but has every intention of finding her way back north some day. I believe sometimes you have to look really, REALLY hard to find the good in people, but it's there. I believe that I'm shrinking (I swear five years ago I was two inches taller). I believe my husband is quite possibly one of the most amazing men in the entire world (I can't be sure because I haven't met all of them). I believe coffee and chocolate, when combined, could be the basis for world peace. I believe that Jesus rocks and communism doesn't. I believe that white makes me look fat and black collects lint. I believe summer's too hot, winter's too cold and fall was made for football. I like dogs better than cats and the first movie in a trilogy is invariably the best.

    Horrible, save your money

This was one of the most blatant Twilight rip offs I've ever seen. It was an insult to Stephenie Meyer who at least came up with her book idea first. Yet another new girl in a small town, falling for a vampire who protects her and so forth.
The writing was appalling, the voice sounded like that of a ten year old. Grammar and spelling mistakes everywhere. Save your money. I'm annoyed that Barnes and Noble would ever allow anyone to publish anything like this.

    Spelling and grammar mistakes

One of the worst edited teen books out there. I found noticeable spelling and grammar mistakes aplenty, almost on every page. I had to force myself to even finish it because sentences made no sense and I had to read them a few times, yet still I couldn't make sense of what the author was trying to say. The slow plot would jump all over the place. The story was a complete Twilight ripoff and quite short. The characters were shallow. Not worth the money.

    Just bad

I'm very disappointed because of the lack of editing and word confusion. It was the usual Twilight vampire story but with grammar and spelling issues on every page and very little plot. Many sentences made no sense due to word confusion. Will not read anything else by this author.

    Good book

Not many paranormal romances elicit such strong emotions from me, but this one had me on the verge of tears several times. Anxiously awaiting the next one!

    Sweet with a little bite

I would have to say it's a great book especially for the price. I assumed because of the price that either the book would have less than 20 pages or be really cheesy and it was neither. I'm 32 and I like vampire stories and this one has a beautiful blossoming love story that wasn't trashy to read which I really enjoyed. Their's great action, suspense, and of course a little horror mixed in there I expect nothing less in any good vampire tale. I would definitely recommend this book and will read the sequel.

If you like Vamps, you'll love Blood Like Poison

Anyone who loves vampire books should pick up this book and read it today.

I will admit that I was a little nervous at first, because there seemed to be a couple of similiarities to Twilight. But I read it anyway and trust me, Ms. Leighton delivers.

The characters of Bo and Ridley are likeable (in fact, I think I'm a little in love with Bo) and realistic. Dialogue is natural and witty and pacing is spot-on. With a rich imagination, she brings in elements of vampirism that I had never heard of before which is nice. It is refreshing to read something fresh and new.

I become quickly absorbed in this book and read it one sitting. And when I read the end, I almost had a heart attack.

I've added M. Leighton to my shelf of favorite authors and can't wait to see what else she brings to the party at a later date.
I'm a little baffled by a couple of the bad reviews that I see here regarding this book. This book was a great read!

    Best one yet!

I have now read all four of this authors books and I totally enjoyed each one. I love the way she writes and I'll read anything that she puts out there. I have to admit, this one grabbed me and wouldn't let go! I am anxious to read the next in each of the four series' but I absolutely can't wait for the next one of this series.

    Bad

Read it all before in Twilight. I wouldn't mind if the writing were anywhere near as good. But it's just boring and juvenile, not for anyone 14+. I found lots of mistakes and typos, which annoyed me. Had to force myself to even finish. I won't bother with the other books.

    Good

This book was slightly like Twilight but had enough differences to make it great plis it has a big cliff hanger ending. I will definately purchase the next in the series.

One of the best books I have ever read!(long review)

This is a really god book! I cant wait to read the next one! This bok has me intrested to a point where im breaking rules and reading past my bed time! (I just turned 12 a couple of days ago) i never wanted to stop! It has a few sexual parts. Nothing thats to graphic. Good for preteens. No one under 10. Most vampire books are graphic and very sexual. Not this one at all. I would like others to also read this book. People say there are a lot of grammer errors. There are not as many as you think. Very easy to ignore. So quit being nit-pickers! Geesh peole. Its not you are college professers! This book has romance. Not to much to devour the while book. But ridley does need to have Bo with her. She loves him! (Sorry for any spelling errors. I do my best to correct them.) Thank you for reading my review!

Now, For the Love of a Vampire was an entirely different matter.

Now, For the Love of a Vampire was an entirely different matter. At first, when I began, I couldn't help but compare it to Twilight. This made me put the books down and step away from it. But then I convinced myself to keep reading, and I am glad I did. After a few pages, everything changed. For the better.

Bo's name didn't appeal to me. When I think of the name Bo, I think of a country boy, honestly. But, I got used to his name and his sweet personality towards Ridley. In the end, they made a cute couple!

Ridley was a humdrum character for me. But, then she got better. I will admit though, I kind of liked her better when she was the one of the "mean girls". The only thing that bothered me about her was how quickly she left her normal life just to be with Bo. She abandoned her whole life for him.

The cliffhanger! Once I got to the last page, I was craving for more, and I got cut off. I going to have to get the second book soon.

What's my verdict, you're asking? Well, I definitely recommend this book. Just remember this warning. Don't stop after the first few chapters. Persevere and you'll like this book. The beginning can be a little monotonous, but afterwards, I promise it gets better.

If you like to read paranormal romance; then check out this book. I fell in love with the characters. The story was wel written, and I am so intrigued that I will definately be continuing with the series.

I will add this to my favorite paranormal reads.....which means it is well worth it to read it more than once.

Come on....give it a try; you wont be dissapointed!

I have read over 150 vampire romance books, and this is oneof my top rated.

I picked up For the Love of a Vampire: Blood Like Poison because

I picked up For the Love of a Vampire: Blood Like Poison because it happened to be free on Amazon and I have a kindle app on my phone. Not to mention that M. Leighton is a pretty fabulous person. But up until this moment, I had yet to read anything thing by her. And the minute I dived into this book I knew I would have to read more of her stuff. I mean for goodness sake...she referenced Keith Stone and Damon Salvatore in the same stinkin sentence. Yep, a woman after my own heart.

This vampire story was different than the others I have read and had a few twists to keep you interested throughout the book. For the Love of a Vampire: Blood Like Poison was a quick read and the fact it had some forbidden romance was an added plus! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Bo and Ridley in the other 2 books of the series. And as far as I know...it's still free on Amazon. So go get your copy today!
