I couldn't put this book down!
This is by far one of the best true crime books I have ever read, and I have read hundreds! The author does an excellent job grabbing the reader's attention. It is written in a fashion that is fast paced, full of action and very detailed. The author spends less time on fancy words and more time on what is actually going on. A must read for any true crime fan!

This is an effective, workmanlike account of the worst serial killer in Oregon's history. Owner of a small business in Portland and apparently happily married, Dayton Leroy Rogers was known among local streetwalkers as a violent john who liked kinky sex and bondage. Through interviews with investigators and witnesses, King...Probing Rogers's past, King finds the killer had a repressive, violent father, fetishized his sisters' shoes as a child....

Meet the Author

Gary C. King, a freelance author and lecturer, has published more than 500 articles in true crime magazines in the United States, Canada, and England. King took over Ann Rule’s job as Pacific Northwest stringer for True Detective magazine and its sister publications, writing hundreds of articles under various names until those magazines ceased publication in the mid-1990s. More recently he has found alternate venues for his stories, including truTV’s Crime Library and Investigation Discovery. He is also the author of several true crime books including: Blood Lust: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer, Driven to Kill, Web of Deceit, Blind Rage, Savage Vengeance (with Don Lasseter), An Early Grave, The Texas 7, Murder in Hollywood, Angels of Death, Stolen in the Night, Love, Lies, and Murder, An Almost Perfect Murder, Butcher, The Murder of Meredith Kercher, and Rage.
Driven to Kill, the story of serial child killer Westley Allan Dodd's killing spree, was published in April 1993 by Pinnacle Books and was nominated for an Anthony Award in the Best True Crime Book category at Bouchercon 25.
Blood Lust: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer, details the bizarre case of Dayton Leroy Rogers, Oregon's worst serial killer to date. Blood Lust was published in December 1992 under NAL/Dutton's Onyx imprint as an original paperback. A German language edition of Blood Lust was published later, in 1995. Both Blood Lust and Driven to Kill were chosen as featured selections of Doubleday's True Crime Book Club.
King’s television appearances have included Entertainment Tonight, Larry King Live, Inside Edition, Court TV, MSNBC’s Headliners and Legends, E!, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Extra TV, and several other programs. He also frequently provides radio interviews. Television interviews also include an episode of Biography about serial killer Robert “Willie” Pickton, the subject of Butcher, and an episode of Dominick Dunne’s Power, Privilege, and Justice called “Strange Bedfellows,” about the murder of Nevada State Controller Kathy Augustine and the subject of King’s An Almost Perfect Murder.

A Dance With a Deviant Killer Hidden in Plain Sight

In this, the first part of the 21st century, there is little argument that the world is full of boogey men - scary beings slinking around furtively doing their nasty business. But there are few of these frightening characters that are more disturbing than the sexual serial killer. Is it the gruesome nature of their crimes that make them among the worst of violent criminals? Is it the escalation of their acts, requiring more and more violence, blood and depravity to achieve satisfaction? Or is it that they walk around with us, day to day, their sheep's clothing masking the beast beneath the fluffy, white wool?

Sexual serial killers often have dissociative states or entirely different ego states that allow them to change personalities as easily as hanging up one set of clothes and putting on another, not unlike Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. And so it was with Dayton Leroy Rogers, respected businessman from Portland, Oregon, and his bone-chilling acts of humiliation, perversion and torturous murder. Gary C. King's true crime novel, Blood Lust, is a detailed re-telling of one of America's most horrific sexual predators.

King's novel is wonderfully detailed, the words resounding in the reader's head as if they were, themselves, the case investigator, finding clues, an increasing number of victims and, finally, Rogers himself. Be prepared for the chills that will inevitably run down your spine, the shock of depraved acts beyond understanding and the seemingly cool nature of a deviant killer hidden in plain sight.

A must read for the true crime fan

Blood Lust is a must read for the true crime fans! The author is successful in grabbing the reader's attention with well-researched facts, spell binding drama, and easy to follow narration. This book is both shocking and horrific in it's photos and text while, at the same time, giving a completely unbiased insight to serial killers by delving into the subjects dark twisted mind!

Blood Lust: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer

I feel that Gary King is a good author. I am writing this on behalf of Dayton. I feel that if the author had spoken to Dayton, he would have written this book much differently. He was un-able to get the facts on the side of the defense. He is a good writer but as stated above, never talked to Dayton or any of Dayton¿s defense team so he never really knew what happened on both sides of the fence. One day, there will be a true story of the life of Dayton Rogers and it will be accurate because it will be from Dayton himself. That day has not yet come but I can promise that it will sooner than later. God Bless You all.......

Blood Lust: Portrait of a Serial Sex Killer

I am writing on behalf of Dayton. First I have to express that King did not have permission from Dayton to write this book. Everything in this book was taken from the side of the prosecution. Nothing written came from Dayton himself OR the defense. If the truth were known regarding this case which one day it will be, I promise you all that one day you will find out what really happened. There are things in this book that are true but there are many fabricated so called theories in this book that have no proof to back them up. I guess it is simply more interesting for a reader to read this kind of material than to read what REALLY happened. What really happened probably would have been to boring to read. This book is fiction of a situation that was taken to the most extreme level. There are a lot of things in this book that did not happen. There are things in the book that did happen. One day, the truth will set you all free as it already has Dayton. God Bless you all¿.

    A very awaking read

A true story that brings true fears of unthinkable things people are capable of. Not for younger audiences.
