Editorial Reviews
Blood Moon, by A.W.Gryphon, is a wonderfully engaging story that will pull you in and become incredibly believable. Gryphon has woven a love story,a mystery,a timeless tale that all readers can relate to into an intriguing storyline that not only is readable to anyone, it is close enough to real life for a witch to read and be able to enjoy without having to self-edit untruths. There are no hocus pocus, lightning bolts from fingertips, love spells or cackling within these pages. The first thing that struck me was how seamlessly the ideas and ritual of being a witch are explained in the story itself. The main character, Amelia, starts out as a young girl and her story quickly changes from just a day to a drama that follows her throughout her life. This is not just about a story about being a witch. Gryphon has provided enough twists and turns to keep even the most clever mystery reader guessing the outcome. The best mysteries are those that connect all the story's threads and leave you wanting more. Blood Moon is certainly that sort of story. I would recommend reading this book. It is a great escape, as fiction should be. It is also wonderful to read a book full of what we witches already know in our lives: spellwork, balance, the power of history and the connection between what is and what will become. Blood Moon by A.W. Gryphon, belongs on every witch's bookshelf. It is not everyday that a book can be a work of fiction and still have such strong ties to reality in it that I find myself feeling pulled into the story because of the familiarity of the subject. Especially since the subject is witchcraft.

Witches, magick, and blood; all accompanied by the suspense and mystery expected from such things are found in A. W. Gryphon's Blood Moon. This is a fantastic story that provides the reader a roller coaster ride through the life of "The One". The intrigue is set in modern times and begins in San Francisco but quickly camps in London. The gist of the story is about one Amelia Pivens, daughter of a powerful witch. Amelia loses her mother at an early age, and has to learn about her own destiny through tragedies and interactions with powerful forces beyond her control. Amelia has some help and guidance along the way, but in the end has to decide for herself who is really on her side. The story has a fast paced motion that will keep the readers interest, and a wonderfully crafted ending leaving the reader wanting more.

Amelia has lived most of her life away from The Craft that she felt took her mother's life. As her Samhain birthday approaches, Amelia will be left to decide if revenge is worth the price she'll pay. A. W. Gryphon weaves a tale of witchcraft, power and death that blurs the line between those who practice for good and those who practice with a darker agenda. Moving through the years of Amelia's shadowed life at a fast clip, readers find themselves at the final showdown where what you think you know when you arrive may be far from what you'll actually find. Blood Moon is an engaging suspense that's fueled by the magic of witchcraft. Blood Moon is the first book in the Witches Moon Series.

Rating: 4 Angels Blood Moon by A.W. Gryphon is a tale of tragedy, love, mystery, betrayal, and destiny. The past has well and truly shaped Amelia and Blood Moon deftly explores how fighting fate is a fruitless battle. She is a character that at times I struggled to like but always found intriguing. The supporting characters were strongly written and the byplay between them kept me guessing right up until the very end who would betray her. A.W. Gryphon is a practicing witch and uses Blood Moon as a vehicle to educate the reader in a manner that is subtle and effective. After a bit of a slow start Blood Moon took off and I found myself unable to put it down. The mystery was gripping and watching Amelia walk that fine edge between light and dark had me holding my breath at times. Sinister characters, a plot where past and future collide, and that keen razor's edge of anticipation that A.W. Gryphon holds the reader on make Blood Moon a book well worth reading.

Blood Moon moves. This is good story telling. I'm a romance writer who loves a good vampire, witch or ghost story. Gryphon nails it. The set up is very involved. It's packed with interesting historical information about Pagan practice and witchcraft. The prologue is a lot to take in, but I urge you to take it in. It's setting you up for a page turning read. If you like Dan Brown's style and Ann Rice's characters read this book. If you're looking for Hemmingway, keep looking. This is a book written by an author who is also a movie screenwriter. She sets you up, straps you in and takes you on a non-stop emotional, witchcraft filled journey driven by a female hero that will lift your spirits and rip your heart out. This book moves as fast as a movie and the style gives you a visual clear as day. This is a good one. I'm looking forward to what Gryphon is going to come out with next.

This book surprised me. I thought I would be reading an exciting witchcraft story. That was certainly in there and the read is great fun in that regard, but there is so much more. The depth of the main character and her journey is amazing. I was excited for her, concerned for her and I cried for her, or with her is more accurate to how I felt reading this book. The style of the writing places you inside the world of the story with the characters. The magical moments of witchcraft come in a story based so firmly in reality, you believe it can happen. This is a great story and a great escape. It's also one of those books that you need to clear some time for. You can't just read one chapter and put it down. Imagine The DaVinci Code with a main character that captures all of your heart and emotions.

Blood Moon is a page turning thriller with an extraordinary main character with amazing abilities who still manages to be down to earth and totally connect with the reader. Not only could I not put the book down because I needed to know what was going to happen in the story, I needed to know what was going to happen to her. Amelia. She is so compelling. You feel like you know her. And what she's going through in finding out about the witchcraft in her history and who she is intended to become was very interesting. I highly recommend this book.

Every year at Comicon I seem to find one little nugget that makes taking a chance on a new author worth it. Blood Moon by A.W. Gryphon has an inspiring main character, a bad guy that you love to hate, and a thriller based story wrapped in a web of seemingly real witchcraft and pagan practice in present day London. I'm not sure how much of the witchcraft practice in this book is based on historical fact and how much the Gryphon made up, but it couldn't be more convincing. The story moved along so well I couldn't put it down, but when I got to the end I didn't want it to be over.

You could tell that A.W. Gryphon did extensive research prior writing this novel. I recommend "Blood Moon" to anyone that is interested to learn more about Wicca and pagan practices and to anyone that just wants to experience a great and exciting story. Loved the ending!

This is a quick read that feels like a movie. I say that because when you're reading it's like you're in the location of the story. There is interesting detail, but not so much that it slows the story down, which is usually what happens in these types of books. The characters are engaging. The story has a thriller quality with historical information driving it. It reminded me of the Davinci Code. I blew through it in one day and when I got to the end I wanted the next A.W. Gryphon book. I recommend it and as a traveler I'll say that it is a perfect airplane read.

A.W. Gryphon's book is simply incredible. The charaters draw you in to the book and on to an exciting plot. Easy to imagine with descriptive writing, I have read many books, and Blood Moon leaves them all behind. It isnt cheesey or cheap, there is not a single wasted scene. Each charater has many sides to their personality, and it is this human aspect that keeps you from truly despising all of the charaters, with some increidible quotes to boot. And what I belive to be the most memorable being one from none other than Jeremy Roth, "Dont worry, darling Amelia. The only diffrence between good and evil and right and wrong is perception." As a young adult, I belive that I can recomend this book to people from allmost any age. It was a truly magnificant story, with an engageing plot, deep charaters, and just a dash of romance. If you were considering reading this, I say that you should go ahead.

I bought this book to read for myself. My 13 year old picked it up before I got to it. She isn't a big reader so I was very surprised that she got through almost forty pages on the first day. She was so moved and connected by the main character and her mother that she cried and she couldn't stop talking about it. We ended up passing the book back and forth so we were reading it at the same time over a week. She learned a lot and got so many moral lessons out of the book, and the story was very good. I didn't think it was a tween book when I picked it up, but seeing how the stories of life and death and family and believing in yourself hit my daughter, I realized this is a perfect story for a tween girl, and I loved the story myself. It has a lot to offer about being a good person and making good decisions with all of the excitement of witchcraft also. We both got a lot out of it. I highly recommend this book.

Witchcraft is not normally a subject I gravitate towards but once I started reading this book, I was drawn in by the characters. The journey that Amelia goes through was detailed with interesting facts about the history and folklore of witches. Miss Gryphon immerses you in the story and you feel like you are right there amongst them. After reading Blood Moon I went to visit the Japanese Garden at Golden Gate Park while I was in San Francisco so I could see the serenity of the koi pond she described in the book. I have recommended this book to many of my friends and eagerly anticipate the sequel so we can continue the next chapter of Amelia's journey.

I got an invite to a Blood Moon party and didn't know what to expect. My friend knows the author. It was fun. Lot's of cool and interesting people were there - so I bought a book. I have to say, I don't know what I was expecting, but I wasn't expecting to be blown away. This is a little known book from a small publisher that I've never heard of. I thought we were going to the party to be supportive of a struggling author. I thought, if it was a great witch book, it would be with one of the big Steven King type publishers. I was wrong. The book rocks. I couldn't put it down. The author said this is the first in the series and now I can't wait to read the next one. If the next book delivers as much as this one, this series is going to blow up like Twilight. The story sucks you in. It's really interesting. And I love the main character. The author said that posting reviews is going to help get the next book out there faster so I'm posting. This is good.

When I say "A perfect Sunday afternoon escape read" I mean that's what you need to plan for with this book. It's a page turner. I kept telling myself that I would read just one more chapter and I ended up reading almost the entire book in one day. When I got toward the end and realized it was almost over, I made myself slow down to savor it over a few days. It reminded me of reading the Davinci Code. The main character, Amelia, is so engaging and her story takes you on a journey that rips in to your heart and makes you feel like a superhero all at the same time. The story is a quick read because you don't want to leave Amelia, and also because the writing is so visual it's like you're there watching the whole thing happen. Two big thumbs up for anyone who likes the supernatural, historically based novels or just a good read. I'm hading it over to my 13 year old daughter who I'm sure will go crazy for it.

A great Summer Read for the beach, the car, the train, the plane, June 10, 2009 If you're looking for a good adventure that's appropriate enough for teens and thrilling enough for adults this is the series to buy. Blood Moon is a fast paced adventure filled with history and folklore. Witches live amongst us and help keep the balance of energies in the world in check until a culmination of dates and history rapidly approach and signal the coming of the Witch destine to save their lineage. But with any impending arrival there is question and doubt if they are the one and if they can handle the pressure of becoming a leader, especially when they know nothing of their past. Each person you meet in the course of this journey twists and turns as they are pulled by their individual struggle with good and evil (the line is fine and quite often blurred. We race to the end and are hit head on with a battle that pays off for the reader and characters alike. This book is a perfect summer read on the beach or rainy day indulgence with a nice cup of Joe. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting read and good writing. It will leave you demanding book 2!

I find it refreshing to have been presented with a story about a powerful woman's modern day journey, which pulls into it her reluctance and draw to being a natural born witch. This book has a page turning story with a well layered character, and I loved it becuase the author put the woman first and the the fact that she's a witch second. She makes it a character trait, a big one, but she still puts what's important first and that is getting to know the character who is taking us through the story. I think there are a lot of supernatural books out there that get so consumed by the witchcraft, or vampire traits, or whatever it is, that they forget to deal with the depth of the character. With this story, the author has me thinking I'm surrounded by witches, and witches that I'd like to talk to. It's a good book. I look forward to the next one in the series. It's Harry Potter for grown ups.

Set in the world of Wiccan lore, the story follows young Amelia Pivens, whose perfect childhood crashes to a halt the night her mother is murdered right infront of her. She turns her back on her wiccan life and her study of the craft until the year of her 28th birthday when it all comes back to her full force. As her birthday and the Blood Moon approaches, Amelia must rediscover who she is if she is going to face the truths of her past and survive the murderous plots surrounding her. Blood Moon was a great read - I couldn't put the book down and can't wait to read more by A.W. Gryphon!! I highly recommend you pick up a copy today!

I'm a big Anne Rice and Dan Simmons fan, and looked forward to reading this book when I heard it compared to theirs. Generally I'm more into the Vampire genre, but I was completely captivated by this Witch story. I don't know if she's a real witch, but if she isn't she is the worlds greatest researcher. The characters are full and real, and I found myself unable to turn out the light, I kept telling myself "Just one more chapter." Of course, that meant I read it much too quickly, when is the next book coming out?!! Highly recommend this book, it was a thrill to read from page one. I expect great things from Ms. Gryphon.

Blood Moon brings the supernatural and the story of a seemingly ordinary and amazing woman into a classic mystery thriller that is near impossible to put down. The writing style is so visual it is as if you are sitting inside of it and seeing, feeling and sensing everything that the writer describes. This is a great read.

Wow! I highly recommend this book. This author weaves a compelling story that speaks to me on so many levels. Witches and Wiccans are as much a part of history as well as the present and future and welcome a strong female character like Amelia Pivens Kreutzer to enlighten us. I love that she is fearless as she learns of her destiny while offering a new way of looking at the world of witchcraft. My favorite part is her suspenseful revenge that kept me guessing with every page - once I started this book I could not put it down! This modern day mystery-thriller has Hollywood movie written all over it. There was Witches of Eastwick, Practical Magic and now Blood Moon. I can see Amelia played by Angelina Jolie and Scottland Yard's Denny Carlisle played by Daniel Craig. Bravo to the first book in the series! I can't wait to see where her journey takes me in the next book.

Blood Moon is a very cool story. It's got everything women are looking for and everything men are looking for. It's got both sides to this woman who is strong and powerful, and romantic and deep. The story takes you through this woman, Amelia's, journey of facing the witch that she was born to be and wants nothing to do with, until the people in her life begin dying/getting killed. She is a reluctant hero on a hero's journey that is both painful and exciting to read. This book offers up a character who is the kind of person you want to know, or be, or meet, or marry. She is engaging and intoxicating. I felt like I was in the story with her and I can't wait for whatever is coming next.

Blood Moon is by a new author that I think is promising. I love that this is a quick read, but also full of plot, interesting characters and witchcraft history. It's fantasy becuase the main character is a witch, but the story is so well set in typical modern day life that it's believable. It makes you wonder if the writer is or knows actual witches, or if Amelia, the main character, is based on a real person. It's fiction, but I feel like I learned a lot about the subculture.
I would suggest this book for people who like female driven stories, thrillers, a good mystery, or are interested in witchcraft. The author certainly comes at the witchcraft subject in a way I have not seen before. It's great.
