Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Jennifer Fairchild
The Blood Moon ceremonies will soon begin. Vampire tribes have gathered in the woods in close proximity to the Helios-Ra Academy where Lucy has just begun her studies. Convenient? Yes, if you are a Hunter on the lookout for any and all vampire slaying opportunities. Not so convenient if you are caught in the middle of vampire--human relations, like Lucy. By day, she is honing her vampire-slaying skills. By night, she is managing her relationships with her new classmates, best friend, and boyfriend. The latter two both happen to be vampires. In the meantime, Solange, Lucy’s best friend, a newly changed vampire princess, is not acting like herself. Feeding off her boyfriend until he is close to death and attacking her best friend is not her usual behavior. Lucy and the Drakes have their work cut out for them. The fifth book in the Drake Chronicles starts off with the action-packed scenes and snarky dialogue readers of the series love. The plot is well paced, and the characters have an authenticity that will appeal to teen readers. There is plenty of angst, relationship drama, and betrayal to pull readers in. This volume, however, cannot stand alone in the series without previous knowledge of characters and events, and there is little recapping to fill readers in. Recommend this title to Drake Chronicles fans and readers who are looking for a new series that offers action, vampires, and witty but dark characters. Ages 11 to 18.

I cannot say enough good things about Alyxandra Harvey's The Drake Chronicles. And Blood Moon was, so far, my favorite book in the series. It's darker and a lot more serious than the other books, but it still has that same sense of humor that made me fall in love with The Drake Chronicles in the first place. There was so much action, and all of the characters were present. All of the Drakes are there, along with my favorite Hunters as well! I can't even begin to tell you how in love with Harvey's characters I am. Not only do I love all of the Drake boys, I even love their mom. I even love their crazy aunts and uncles. Harvey creates a family that you want to be part of. (Or more like you want to be their crazy neighbor, Lucy, so you can ogle all the hot family members and have it not be weird...) That's part of what I love most about The Drake Chronicles. Harvey's ability to create fully fleshed out characters that actually interact with one another. They all have this chemistry with one another, like they're a real family. And Holy. Moly. Batman! Blood Moon was the most insane book in this series by far. That's the only word to describe the crazy twist Harvey took with the storyline. Blood Moon was so utterly, heartbreakingly perfect. I didn't want it to happen, but as it was happening it still just felt... right. I seriously can't wait to see what happens next! I'm going to be holding my breath until the next book comes out. (So if I pass out, it's all your fault Alyxandra!) If you love the Drake's the way I love them, you NEED to get your hands on Blood Moon as fast as you can! If you're one of the poor unfortunates who's never had the privilege of meeting the Drake boys, go out and buy Hearts at Stake (Drake Chronicles #1). Right now!

I love the emotion and surprises that occur in this book. I believe that it is the best in the series so far. Make sure to read the first four books first. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves vampires, love, action, and amazing characters.

The cliffhanger ending  really makes you want to pick up the next one immediately.  I felt this section of the story was dark and a lot of people getting beat-up, being possessed by evil spirits or listening to people who are nefarious, hurting friends and family etc. A lot of the characters seem to be out of character. It is NOT a warm fuzzy book. There are a lot of things that are not explained in this one and I hope the last book can answer all of them.

1. Solange goes crazy. Seriously, this chick goes off the richter scale of crazy women. At this point, I think I have an idea of whats happening, but watching her unfold to an unstable vampire had its entertaining moments. 2.  Lucy & Nick. I love this couple. I really do. Both of them have grown up so much over the course of the series. It’s good to see them working together and loving one another unconditionally  Though their relationship goes through a few tough times, I’m glad to see them make it through. Till the end… 3. Plot. The plot is good. Though it did take me a while to step back into the story, cause in the beginning your thrown in right into the middle of chaos. After reading a few more chapters, I finally settled in for a nice read for the night. 4. Solange & Kieran. Their relationship goes BAM! Yeah, I’m a little sad of how this all went down. In the end, it did seem to redeem it self a little. I really want Ms. Harvey to fix this pronto! I’m hoping in the next book, it will all be resolved. Pretty please? 5.  Helios-Ra. Yeah, I didn’t really enjoyed much of this part. It did have action, I still missed the feel of the Drake Brothers being well, brothers. There all separated  Every one is fighting for their lives and their loved ones that I felt the story missed out on what captured me in the first place. The Drake Brothers. Blood Moon is an high-intensity book full of action and adventure.  Blood Moon remains faithful to the characters bring out the best in them. Exciting and eventful, Blood Moon is great.

With the first four books under my belt, there was never any doubt that I would read this book. It was really just a matter of when because review book seem to take up so much of my time. When the book six (and final book) was available for review, there was my last motivation for getting this one read sooner rather than later. I've been patiently watching Solange struggle with her blood change. She's definitely not adapting well. I've known what she's experiencing is not the norm, but just wasn't very sure how far outside that range she was. I sometime wonder if her family wasn't so busy with her mother taking over and the Blood Moon, if she would have gotten help sooner. She's been left to her own thoughts and devices, and I don't think that has helped any. I've been extremely intrigued by the little voice in her head. The rituals and rules behind the blood moon are very interesting. The tribes are all represented. They have their own guard with a no nonsense policy. With so many vampires in town in bound to attract some attention. The presence have not gone unnoticed by Helio-Ra. Lucy gets a lot of flack at the prestigious vampire hunters school. There's a lot of bad blood there and most are not willing to accept that not all vampires are bad. Poor Nicholas seems to go through a lot in this book. His loyalty to both Solange and Lucy are both tested to the extremes. Odd that he seems to have see events coming enough to be able to plan for them. I think its a testament to how loyal he is to his family and how much he cares for Lucy. He know that not everything is going to be perfect, but love that he tries. I did not like Constantine. I was honestly wondering the entire time what it was that had Solange so wrapped up in him. He was the exact opposite of everything that Solange had been taught. He fed into her blood lust and was constantly making things difficult between her and her family. But yet nothing anybody said could convince her that he was anything but understanding. I sometimes I couldn't decide if I wanted to smack her for it or really dig down and figure out what was going on. This one dragged a little in places, but really set the pace for the finale. It ends in the typical cliff-hanger that we come to expect from The Drake Chronicles. But, I'm more the willing to dive into the next book!

I first want to say that if you haven't read the other books in this series and you want to then you might not want to read this review. It's hard to talk about this book and not giveaway something. I love The Drake Chronicles and Alyxandra Harvey is one of my favorite YA authors, but I am not sure if I like how this series is going. It only has one more book then it is finished but I didn't enjoy this book as much as the others, so I am hoping the next one will make up for it.  This book is told mainly in the three POV's of Lucy, Solonge and Nickolas, and I have to admit that Solonge really ticks me off in this book. I found myself wanting to skip over her parts and get back to see what was going on with Lucy or Nicholas. The ending leaves you hanging a little bit and is in Kieran's POV. If you have read the series you know that Solonge is having a really hard time after she turned into a vampire. With each book she has become worse and worse and now she is really having a hard time with her blood lust. There is a voice in her head tricking her into thinking her family is against her. She also has a vampire Constantine who is not helping her as he keeps feeding her human blood when her family is a non-human blood family. He also keeps putting thoughts into her head about being a princess and accepting her blood lust nature.  We know from the last book that Solonge finally attached her human boyfriend, Kieran who is a Helio-Ra vampire hunter. So now she has broke up with him because she feels bad about it and thinks it is the best way to handle things. Kieran knows something is wrong with her but he is not sure what is going on.  Lucy has joined the Helio-Ra school, but only because she was forced too. The Drakes thinks it to dangerous for her to be around them right now. Being at a vampire hunter school and dating a vampire only subjects her to bullying by her classmates. Even though she is not the only hunter to be dating a vampire she has grown up with the vampires and so is seen to be more of a traitor. Lucy is still my favorite character out of all the characters in the series, she is just tough and sassy and I love it.  Nicholas is the next to the youngest Drake and very loyal to Solonge, but he is also Lucy's boyfriend so he is having some mixed emotions on what to do during Solonges feral state and at the end of the book I sort of felt sorry for the guy. Nicholas is also my favorite Drake.  The book is all based around Solonge's mother being crowned Queen at the Blood Moon, lots of vampires have come to town and not all of them are nice like the Drakes. So there is a lot of chaos in this book between the drama of Solonge, humans and vampires both being kidnapped, new more dangers huntsman in town, etc. I really don't feel that this is the best book in the series and I was a little disappointed, but I still enjoyed it enough to want to get right in to seeing how the series will end. If you haven't read the series I would recommend you give it a try.

*Spoiler Alert* I love it, only because it's makes me so irritated and mad. Which is pretty good for the author to have readers feel those emotions. But man I am so angry I havent finished yet. And Solange... She is so STUPID! It's obvious that stupid "mystery" vamp, that she SO comfortable around with, is the voice in her head. I mean, really? How can she be so stupid? It's so obvious. Then the stupid girl goes and turns her back on her own family. How can she not see that he is like the rest but stronger? He's just using her, ever since she starts hanging out with him, she's attacking people and acting out. UGH! It's obvious he's turning her against those she loves, please someone knock her on her ***. She needs it. ~Sigh~ So disappointed with her. >.<
