Imagine the horror of finding that your research student has exacted a revenge that will have world wide consequences. This is what happens to Dr. Peter Mallow, a researcher at a secure research center on Galveston Island, who has spent his whole career trying to understand and stop infectious viruses and is currently working on the bird-flu virus. From the first page this book grabs you and takes the reader through a year in the life of a viral researcher by allowing us to read along in the pages of Mallow's personal journal. The downward spiral of his career and the startling ending keeps the reader on edge beyond the last page. In spite of Mallow's human flaws, he is very likeable character and the character development is enough so that you get a true sense of the man.
