Bram Stoker Award winner Weston Ochse has done it again.
Post-Apocalyptic survival on the high seas? High-flying acrobatics across a floating island of ships lashed together? Cannibalism? Literal monkeys on people's backs? Well, what's not to like? It's a literary roller coaster of a book.
Far from being only an adrenalin junkie's dream, Mr. Ochse weaves into Blood Ocean the amazing coming of age story of Kavika Kamilani, son of one of the leaders of a group known as the Pali Boys. Kavika has big shoes to fill, but he is afraid (or perhaps too SANE) to perform some of the stunts that would vault him into the ranks of the Pali Boys.
The things he must do to get justice for his friends and family throughout the book show his true courage. He overcomes obstacles in amazing ways that reveal him to truly be a Pali Boy, in mind, body, and soul.
Blood Ocean is great fun. I've got to admit, it's the first of the Afterblight Chronicles I've read, but if Mr. Ochse's story is any indication of the quality of the rest of the series, it definitely won't be the last I'll read.
