Overview

Keegan lives to exact revenge on the evil demon who sired and abused him. When his father devises a plan to bring on the apocalypse, he and his three half-brothers, interdimensional bounty hunters for the Elden Council, are charged with capturing and delivering their father for punishment.

Art gallery owner Brynn Meyers has no idea that her ability to read memories embedded in objects and drain people of their life force means she has demon ancestry. Unfortunately for Brynn, she's also the key to raising an ancient zombie army, which puts her on every demon's Most Wanted List.

And no one wants her more than Keegan's father.

Keegan must protect Brynn from his father by any means necessary, but he'll have to learn to harness the other half of his genetics—the far deadlier, uncontrollable half—when he starts to fall for the one woman standing between him and the vengeance he so desperately seeks. The one woman he'll never be able to resist.

My Review: After being raised by their cruel, sadistic father, Keegan and his 3 half-brothers have gone to work for the Council as enforcers. Their job on earth is to find the Book that could lead to the apocalypse for this world and, if that is not possible, then to kill the Heir who is the only person capable of wielding the power that the Book holds. The Heir is none other than Brynn, art gallery owner and normal human person...at least as far as she knows. Brynn has always had powers, but she has no idea that she has demon blood flowing through her veins or, for that matter, that demons really exist. So when Keegan knocks her out and kidnaps her for her own safety, she is a bit reluctant to buy into his whole story. But when a horde of 10 demons crashes into her apartment trying to kill the brothers and kidnap her, she is forced to face some scary-looking creatures and to accept that maybe she doesn't know all there is to know about her heritage or other aspects of the supernatural world. I really enjoyed this book. It's a really interesting world with a whole new twist on angels and demons. The four brothers have come from incredible evil. Their father was a demon who raped and tortured their mother's to impregnate them. They all have different mothers who were chosen based upon their distinctive skills and race. The brothers are all half demon, but the other halves are Dragon, Fae, Angel, and Siren with each of them having their own special skill-set based on their mother's race. Despite being raised under their father's cruel watch, they have turned out to be incredibly good guys with an incredible bond of love to each other. I loved all the scenes where they were interacting together. They have a great relationship and I can't wait until the rest of their books are out. Brynn is the perfect match for Keegan. Her world has been totally turned upside down, but she accepts that there is not much that she can change about that. She is brave, even if a bit brash. She will do whatever it takes to save Keegan no matter how much the prospect terrifies her. She is willing to power through and do whatever needs to be done and I loved that about her! This was a fantastic first novel in the series. (BTW, most of you know that I am NOT usually a big fan of first novels in paranormal series because they tend to get bogged down in all the world-building. That completely was NOT an issue in this book which jumped right into the action. I loved that about it!!) I completely enjoyed reading it and look forward to reading the others when they come out!

I went into Blood of the Demon thinking I was really going to like it. It had all the ingredients of a good story: a smart, fun main character with an unrealized power, a sympathetic, brooding male counterpart, magic, faeries, and demons. You name it. The storyline was great: Blood of the Demon is quick, witty and modern with humorous punchlines and characters. But for me, it still fell short. There¿s a lot of dialogue, which I love, and not a lot of info-dumping, which I also like. But I couldn¿t relate to the main character, and that¿s something that bothers me. Brynn is likeable and smart¿and has a power that she knows how to use but doesn¿t understand. But when she gets kidnapped by Keegan ¿for her own safety,¿ she takes it in stride and wants to¿you know¿do him. I found that pretty unbelievable, because who wants to make wild, passionate love to the guy who just clocked her out cold and is keeping her a virtual prisoner? Speaking of sex, Blood of the Demon has a lot of it. I¿m not a prude by any stretch of the imagination, but this felt almost like borderline erotica. You, as the reader, will be happily bumping along in the novel when BAM! the word ¿c*ck¿ is bandied about an awful lot, there¿s a heated scene, and then you¿re back to the story. I don¿t even smoke, and I felt like I needed a cigarette after reading some of those steamy scenes. It was as if the author placed ¿dirty¿ words throughout the novel in groups, just to have them. That just doesn¿t work for me; swearing in novels is fine with me, as long as it¿s used wisely and in context. I was able to pick up on some things right away; others, such as an incident Brynn had when she was 11, we¿re not given a clue to until it just kind of comes up halfway through the book, and is almost as quickly dismissed. I¿m being deliberately vague so I don¿t spoil it for you. Overall, Blood of the Demon was an okay read. I definitely wanted to know what happened next which is the cornerstone to any good story. But the characters felt weak to me and I couldn¿t sympathize with them, so without that, it falls flat on its pages.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story with it's unique spin on the Demon population and the strength of the characters. The four brothers each have their own specific ability and obviously will eventually all have their own tale to tell in coming books.  Keegan is the eldest and the lead male role in this first story. He has an undeniable commitment and loyalty to his brothers and will stop at nothing to ensure their safely, as he harbours insurmountable guilt for horrors inflicted on them all in the past, which he failed to prevent.  But the latest assignment the brothers undertake, will throw temptation in Keegan's path and test his resolve to put his family and duty before all else.  Who would have thought an innocent young woman could be the key to not only Armageddon, but to Keegan's heart. The world created by the author and the strength of her cast, made this book an absolute pleasure to read.

I liked the overall story, but it just seemed to drag. It just couldn't keep me attention very long which is very rare. I like to read books in one sitting but this took me a few days just couldn't stay interested in it.

This is a great read. Discover the abilities and consequences of having the gift of reading memories with a touch . then throw in a sexy demon who will do anything to be her hero and save the world and each other from Keegan's father and his own hell on earth ,where Brynn is the key to the destruction.
