Meet the Author

Jim Sandoval was a long time political blogger. Growing tired of the growing insanity on both sides of the aisle, he turned his talents towards fiction. His first medieval adventure / fantasy novel, Blood Of The Righteous - Book 1 of the Ki Kalendeen Chronicles, was released in March of 2012. Seven books planned in the first series, followed by a trilogy set in the same world. He lives in Pittsburgh with his wife and son, and their Brobdingnagian 90 pound Basset Hound, Flash.

I am always so excited to actually read a book that is worth the time spent reading it. This story, while it does start out a little slow, really picks up. I enjoyed the characters as well. The author did a really great job with the vivid character development. I do look forward to book 2. There are side stories, however, with some of the characters.

This is a wonderful book. It has many of the characteristics of the Game of Thrones series or Lord of the Rings which make it great. I looked forward to the next time I got to pick it up and read further. And, when I got to the end, I was sad that there wasn't any more to read. I am ready to start on the next book. I really enjoyed seeing Christianity placed into a fantasy novel in a positive way. Never fear -- the "real" world is included as there are bad Christians in the list of characters, too. The few criticisms I have are minor. There are some errors -- either typographical or the wrong homonym. And the "leg" measurement was always distracting.

Quite an adventure! Excellent read with great plot and character development! It takes the reader on a journey through several different walks of life with a believable enemy to be reckoned with. I got completely caught up in this book, enjoying the viewpoints and adventures of characters on different paths. It's a pirate/medieval-kingdom/university-student/villain/royalty/merchant/commoner experience all wrapped up into one with believable plot lines and intersections of characters. I felt the author did a great job with not only dialogue and vernacular but also the depth of each character based on his/her level of life experience at the time. The spiritual warfare (good vs. evil) component reminded me a bit of "The Lord of the Rings"--not forced, but woven in realistically, where the evil felt very tangible, creating a beautiful tension. Readers will enjoy this book in its incredible descriptions: amazing meals, the landscape, the rocking at sea. I felt carried along from port to port and experienced this book as if I were walking along the shops bartering with David Tanner. J. E. Sandoval takes his readers on such an adventure, it leaves them eager to bury themselves deeply in the next books in the series. --Bonnie Lyn Smith, Author of "Not Just on Sundays: Seeking God's Purpose in Each New Day"
