Overview

Can she find a killer in a town where the basest desires are allowed to run free?

There are zombies in the Dead Zone and Juliana Norris is sent to take care of the problem. And for there to be zombies, there had to be bodies. When vampires are found to be the culprits, Juliana is sent undercover in the red light district of Kansas City. Lying to her mate, Thomas Kendrick, isn’t something she wants to do, but she’s in another vampire’s territory and Thomas would not be pleased. Besides, she’s more than capable of doing the job and she needs to prove it to everyone. Most of all herself.

Charles Morgan is in control of the Kansas City area, making a rich living off his various enterprises. Juliana goes undercover at the strip club Lust and gets sucked into his dark, decadent world. More victims turn up and the Agency is positive they’ve got their man, but Juliana is not so sure. When the Agency refuses to listen, she reluctantly turns to Thomas for help. He intervenes but finds Juliana unaware of the danger she is in and discovers she may just be too deep for him to save.

I saw this book randomly on my Twitter feed and decided to give it a shot. First off, I give this book 3.5 stars instead of 3. Collins does a good job with her characters and the world in which they inhabit. There are plenty of vampires, mages, zombies and all kinds of other supernatural beings. My favorite part of the book is that vampires, zombies and every other kind of supernatural being inhabit the same world. That's not usually the case. The book was well written and I only noticed a few typos, but who cares, it took nothing away from the book. This type of genre isn't really my thing and probably the only reason I gave it a pretty good instead of really good. If you are into vampires, zombies and strong female characters I think you'll really like this book and for $3.99 what have you got to lose. Do it.

Short book (165 pages), but a very good read. It hit all the right points for me — good world building, action, danger, and romance. The author isn't overly wordy, which is something I like. She describes what you need to know very succinctly, rather than spending three pages telling you what a room looks like or expounding on someone's inner feelings for too long. I like that about these books. It keeps the story flowing faster while still not lacking in anything. The characters are great. I love all of them; from the main two all the way down to the secondary and tertiary characters. And the plot kept me interested from start to finish!
