Overview

All Kendra wanted was a change.

After a bad day at work, she wants this more than anything. She goes to an old friend for comfort and decides it’s time for that change to happen. So she gets a tattoo in a last ditch effort to make people see her differently. She never would’ve bargained for what comes next. She’s seeing better than she ever has in her life. She can smell and even tell the difference between scents. She can hear a fly buzzing from fifty feet away. She’s faster. Stronger.

Oh…and now she’s extremely hot.

But is the price of these changes too high? And what about the shocking revelation of who-and what-her biological father really is?

Sometimes change can be good…and then there’s the other times.

Meet the Author

I'm Rustin Petrae, a graphic designer out of Ohio. I was actually born in San Antonio, Texas but spent nearly half my life overseas. I grew up on Misawa Air Force Base, Japan and then went on to Seoul, South Korea and then onto Osan Air Force Base, South Korea where I graduated from Osan American High School. I loved that life. I loved living in a country where I was able to absorb different cultures and traditions. I learned a lot from that and I use a lot of what I learned in my writing.I started very early on. In fact, I can remember one of my elementary school teachers asking us all what we wanted to be when we grew up. My answer was that I wanted to either be a cartoonist or an author. Well, I didn't end up being a cartoonist (although I still draw and create my own characters). I went on to pursue the graphic design route, but I never did give up on writing. I think I really started to pursue it again when I was a senior in high school. That's when I tried to get a little more serious about it and also when I completed one of my first short stories. Ever since then, I have written several stories, flash fictions, a couple of novellas, and two novels.I've always enjoyed the creative process. I love taking things and seeing them through until they are something real. Something you can actually grab onto. For me, the creative spark really began in Misawa, Japan. All of my friends, myself included, would make up characters, cartoons and the worlds they would go in. Shortly after that I started drawing and spent a long time creating even more characters. It wasn't until a couple of class projects where we had to write and make our own books that I realized I could write about the characters that I drew.Everything just sort of spun off from that and I've spent nearly my whole life creating these characters and sharpening them and their worlds until I have stories that I like.I hope that everyone else likes them too.If you are a fan of Purga or the Bane Pack then like my page on Facebook. Had I know what the true premise of the novel was, which not even the Amazon sample alluded to, I would not have picked this novel. I believed it to be about a girl who got magical powers from a tattoo. While that did happen, it certainly wasn't the type of power I had envisioned. Aside from that, since it was what the author had in mind, Rustin definitely succeeded when he wanted to create his own spin on werewolf origins and stereotype. I appreciated his back stories and how he tied it in throughout the novel, the twists with villains, and the concept of the Knights with their Mage partners.

Had this book been solely about the mages and knights, it would have appealed to me more. But that's just my personal opinion, since I tend to avoid werewolf, vampire, or angels/demons in literature.

The author could have used a bit more description. While it made this book a quick read, the way he told the story, instead of showing it, didn't give the reader much to dig into beyond the surface. I do believe the characters could have used a little more depth. Though it was his intention, how characters seemed to change from the readers' first impression of them was a bit off-putting. I must say Kendra accepted things so quickly, considering only a day or 2 had passed, that it was a bit unrealistic.

Yet for those who enjoy this genre of literature, this novel is worth a read. As the epilogue shows, it definitely sets itself up to become an interesting series.

Is an okay story. Typical werewollf byline but I like the addition of the knights and the mages, that's what makes this story unique.
