More About This Book

Overview

One of the most perennially sought-after subjects for gift and gardening audiences is a collection of extraordinary photographs of flowers. Paul Solberg, here in conjunction with renowned photographer Christopher Makos, has created one of the most gorgeous works of flower photographs ever published. Bloom, Solberg’s first foray into art photography after successful stints in advertising and independent filmmaking, constitutes one of the most compelling assemblages of flower imagery available and is sure to attract photography aficionados, florists, fashion lovers, and gift-givers alike.

With a preface by New York style maestro Ralph Pucci, Bloom will open your eyes to a new horizon of flower photography and a previously unknown talent. Working in a still-life, studio format, Solberg’s flowers are so crisp, so beautiful, so colorful that they mesmerize and entrance anyone looking for a new view on a popular subject. Working with Christopher Makos as an editor and secondary eye, Solberg gives a presentation that breaks from the catalog format of most books on floral subjects available today. With sumptuous portraits of flowers from English roses to rare Cattleya orchids, Solberg’s photographs combine the fleeting beauty and ongoing nature of the living bloom in moments of tranquility that bring the flowers to life. Beautifully manufactured on the finest paper and with precise attention paid to the smallest details of each bloom, Solberg has captured the moment when each flower is in its fullest and most beautiful moment.

    Brilliant

I was skeptical when I picked up the book, but blown away by the time I had turned the final page. Each photograph had me transfixed. What a remarkable debut for this newcomer - I am already looking forward to his next project...

    connect

There's a quiet and dynamic energy emanating from the pages of Bloom. Paul Solberg has illuminated something beyond the surface with an intimacy that leaves me with a sense of peace that only a realization of my connection to nature inspires. Everyone should breathe it in.

Bloom shows flowers in a new light

I always love when an unknown artist is able to take an over done subject and strip away the cliche to show us something familiar but entirely new-- a remarkable achievement.

    It¿s ALL about the flowers.

The rich simplicity of the photographs in this book allows the reader to appreciate the natural intricacy and complexity of each bloom. More than a modern take on the traditional botanical field guide, these photographs discover the sensuality of flowers that surrounds us. The composition of the shots range from stunning to whimsical ¿ a real delight. This book fills a big spot on my Christmas shopping list.

    Meditation on the Flower

The photographs in Bloom are like a meditation on the flower. You look at each blossom in a whole new way. In a pure, focused, and totally present state of mind sort of way. These photos really make you marvel at the amazing talent of Nature to produce such beauty. Solberg has captured that pure beauty and inspires you to seek it out in the world around you. This book is a totally uplifting experience.
