Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
In a follow-up to his One Red Dot, in which he hid a red circle amidst a counting game, David Carter now camouflages a Blue 2 with clues to its whereabouts tucked into an ABC-inspired text. Mobiles pop from the pages and readers spin pinwheels and pull tabs to find each elusive numeral two. Another enchanting creation from the inventive paper engineer. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
Children's Literature
This is designated A Classic Collectible Pop-Up by the publisher and, as a sample of the paper engineer's art, it is remarkable for the diversity and complexity of its actions. For the movable book devotee it will be required viewing, but basically it is a book of puzzles—ten puzzles on nine double-page spreads. In each of the ten movable constructions, there is hidden a small blue figure of the number 2. Several of the numbers are quite difficult to find; but once the puzzles are solved there is nothing other than the paper constructions themselves to bring the viewer back to the book for a second time. In short, there is no story. The puzzle structures are fairly substantial, but there is a delicacy that renders them inappropriate for impatient young children. Highly recommended for readers twelve years and older who will be fascinated by the engineering aspect of the movements.
School Library Journal

Gr 2–5
A perplexing follow-up to One Red Dot (S & S, 2005). Intricately designed paper sculptures are paired with fragmented text containing words in alphabetical order. In each of the nine boldly colored spreads, readers are asked to look for a "Blue 2" hidden somewhere in the illustration. Both the language and the images are highly abstract ("Jubilant Kookiness Laughing" is paired with white pop-up cones emitting colorful curving lines and dots); the vocabulary is often quite challenging ("Mobile Nonsense Oscillating"); and some of the concepts are difficult to grasp ("Exploding Yin and Yang Zone"). Often, the sought-after Blue 2 is a bit too elusive. While the pop-ups are innovative and exciting and the graphic design is enticing, this book will be beyond the grasp of many young readers.

    I Also Recommend:

    Blue 2

Second book in series by author/creator. Absolute favorite of two young nephews (ages 5 and 2) and me from approximately 50 pop-up books that we have! We have enjoyed this book so much that I recently purchased 20 copies to give away! Challenging, but very satisfying once the hidden characters are found. Has been very entertaining for family and friends of all ages. We've enjoyed this type of book so much we've dubbed them "huddle-cuddle" books--highly recommending they be first experienced alongside young ones. Our enthusiasm for this book has now spread internationally via gifts! You won't regret purchasing this experience!
