The title Blue Again is a giveaway: like many old rock & rollers, Mick Fleetwood returns to his first love -- the blues -- in 2009, forming the aptly named Mick Fleetwood Blues Band with former Mac running mate Rick Vito on guitar and vocals, Lenny Castellanos on bass, and Mark Johnstone on keyboards. The Mick Fleetwood Blues Band hit the road in 2008 and Blue Again captures their February 2008 show at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis, MO, which was a gig not unlike the others on the tour: the group ran through several old Peter Green standards like "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Black Magic Woman" and a bunch of originals by Vito, ending with a cover of Elmore James' "Shake Your Moneymaker." Unless the new tunes by Vito are counted -- and arguably they should, as they fit nicely with Green's -- there are no surprises here, just straight-up blues-rock played by old pros who are steadily whittling away the rock to get closer to a purer blues. If Vito's singing is a little bit too smooth and the execution occasionally a bit too on the nose, there is nevertheless an energy and vigor to the spirit here that is wholly welcome and, when it all comes together, even infectious.

Nothing comes close to revisiting the early Fleetwood Mac years than by hearing this album right from the founder himself! The rocky/blues vibe is outstanding. They must have used 100 mic feeds to get such a clear crisp recording Live. Actually sounds better to me than most current "studio" albums. There's a historical book full of photos and the whole story celebrating 40 years of the Mac history that is one more reason to GET THE CD not a download. Nothing like turning the pages and seeing the photos! Mick actually hand wrote two pages as the intro. Fantastic work - even the tray of the CD has a cool shot of the Mick Fleetwood Blues Band in it. Liners say photos by Jonathan Todd. The guy rocks! He's got tons of pages and features on imagekind so he must be a rock veteran. Rick Vito - a former Fleetwood Mac member - delivers the real stuff on guitar and vocals. Highly evocative of the original Peter Green era - with many of Peters songs covered on this album. But it's the new stuff that gets me most excited - Vito wrote a bunch of great material for this album. The only other band members are listed as Lenny Castellanos on bass and Mark Johnstone on Keys. I think both sing too. Not easy to be a bass guy for Mick Fleetwood and Lenny did killer great. Mark seems to just tie it all together and give the oldies a new life with the Keys which weren't in the original Mac songs. Totally refreshing!!! Looking at the internet you can see the European version actually charted in England and Germany last winter - and hearing this album tells me why. If you like to feel good - tap your feet and dig rock and the blues - this is a MUST HAVE RECORD!!!
Nobody rocks the blues harder than Mick Fleetwood. This recording has such an unbelievable vibe. Put it on and let it carry you away!!!!
Micks roots are blues, so it only made sense he would put out this release. I recommend this as an essential to any blues collection, or just to any Mick fan. Great selection of songs.
In my opinion the CD is on a par with some of Mick's best albums including RUMOURS, which is one of my favorites. Their version of BLACK MAGIC WOMAN sounds even beter than SANTANA'S which until now was my favorite. Having made 8 trips to Hawaii, I found the bonus track ALBATROSS to be a very welcome suprise, both due to the fact that it's not the type of song I expected from him and that it really has the feel of Hawaiian music.
this cd is a must for blues music . the cd is totally awsome .mick fleetwood band out did themselves for music . gary ,va.
