Meet the Author

Twenty years ago Kylie Chan married a Hong Kong national in a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony in Eastern China. She and her husband lived in Australia for eight years, then in Hong Kong for ten years.

She has seen a great deal of Chinese culture and has come to appreciate the customs and way of life.

Two years ago she closed down her successful IT consultancy company in Hong Kong and moved back to Australia. She decided to use her knowledge of Chinese mythology, culture, and martial arts to weave a story that would appeal to a wide audience.

Since returning to Australia, Kylie has studied kung fu (Wing Chun and Southern Chow Clan styles) as well as tai chi, and is now a senior belt in both forms. She has also made an intensive study of Buddhist and Taoist philosophy and has brought all of these together into her storytelling.

Kylie is a mother of two and lives in Brisbane.

    more from this reviewer

Great for people interested in Toaist and Buddist Mythology

The book is very entertaining for those who wish to read a story set in Oriental Folklore and Mythology. The action is almost non existant. The character interaction is boring. Everyone gets along and keeps saying how great the main character in the story is; even the bad guys.

The Blue Dragon follows similar plot lines from the first two books. As some of the initial problems and mysteries from book one begin to get cleared up (demon hybrids, Kitty Kwok's story, and Emma's true essence), I found some of the plot getting quite repetitive and predictable. For example, every time the family ventures out of Peak, I expected some sort of Demon Prince attack. And pretty much that is what we get. Additionally, I couldn't understand how Emma's entire family could just "abandon" their home and friends in Australia and move to the Celestial. Additionally, we know John will need to change into his Turtle form for good. So just do it! This had been dragged out way too long. Finally, Chan introduces way too many characters. I couldn't keep the students, masters, and immortals straight by the third book. Still, a very good read and I will continue reading her upcoming novels.
