Overview

Alyson’s Noël’s bestselling Immortals series has been hailed as “addictive” “beautiful” “haunting” and “mesmerizing.” In the second installment, Ever can bring her family back from the dead—but only if she’s willing to sacrifice the guy she loves more than life itself.

Just as Ever is learning everything she can about her new abilities as an immortal, initiated into the dark, seductive world by her beloved Damen, something terrible is happening to him. As Ever’s powers are increasing, Damen’s are fading—stricken by a mysterious illness that threatens his memory, his identity, his life.

Desperate to save him, Ever travels to the mystical dimension of Summerland, uncovering not only the secrets of Damen’s past—the brutal, tortured history he hoped to keep hidden—but also an ancient text revealing the workings of time. With the approaching blue moon heralding her only window for travel, Ever is forced to decide between turning back the clock and saving her family from the accident that claimed them—or staying in the present and saving Damen, who grows weaker each day...

Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
In this installment of The Immortals, Ever's budding relationship with soul mate Damen, not to mention his life, are threatened by the mysterious loss of his powers. Desperate to save him, Ever journeys to the magical dimension of Summerland, where she learns of the daunting tasks before her. A linchpin volume in a favorite teen series.
Publishers Weekly
Noël's sequel to the bestselling Evermore is a mesmerizing tale of teenage angst, love and sacrifice with plenty of crossover appeal. Still learning to control her powers as an Immortal, teenage Ever Bloom is as in love with the Immortal Damen as he is with her—until he dumps her just before the long-awaited night when they plan to sleep together for the first time. Unable to get over the loss, Ever soon finds herself ostracized by friends and scorned by her beloved. Not only is Damen barely able to remember their relationship, but he is becoming weaker as well. Only the new guy in school, the mysterious Roman, seems intent on obtaining her trust. Ever knows something strange is to blame and that only she can save Damen. But in her quest for the cure, Ever is confronted with a choice to change the past or save Damen in the present. The startling but satisfying ending shows that Noël knows how to keep her audience hooked. Ever's supernatural struggles are a captivating metaphor for teenage fears about love, relationships and growing up. Ages 12–17. (July)
From The Critics
Picking up three weeks after the conclusion of Evermore (St. Martin's, 2009/VOYA February 2009), this second book in The Immortals series finds Ever trying to adjust to her new immortality and excited about spending eternity with the love of her life, Damen. When Damen mysteriously becomes ill, Ever has the sneaking suspicion that it is somehow related to the arrival of Roman, a handsome stranger who has a magnetism that attracts everyone in school. Ever is desperate to figure out what is happening and help save Damen. She travels to Summerland in search of answers and gets guidance along the way from a strange set of twins and psychic Ava for help in making an antidote and the red juice that the immortals are reliant upon for sustenance. Impulsive and repeatedly misplacing her trust, Ever seems to make each situation more complicated despite trying to make things better. The origins of the immortals is explained while Ever learns more about her encounters with Damen and her deaths over the years. Although several things are revealed toward the end of the book, there are many new twists, with resolutions that are left for future volumes. Readers who got hooked by the first book will be excited for this next series installment. Reviewer: Erin Wyatt

“Close your eyes and picture it. Can you see it?”

I nod, eyes closed.

“Imagine it right there before you. See its texture, shape, and color—got it?”

I smile, holding the image in my head.

“Good. Now reach out and touch it. Feel its contours with the tips of your fingers, cradle its weight in the palms of your hands, then combine all of your senses—sight, touch, smell, taste—can you taste it?”

I bite my lip and suppress a giggle.

“Perfect. Now combine that with feeling. Believe it exists right before you. Feel it, see it, touch it, taste it, accept it, manifest it!” he says.

So I do. I do all of those things. And when he groans, I open my eyes to see for myself.

“Ever.” He shakes his head. “You were supposed to think of an orange. This isn’t even close.”

“Nope, nothing fruity about him.” I laugh, smiling at each of my Damens—the replica I manifested before me, and the flesh and blood version beside me. Both of them equally tall, dark, and so devastatingly handsome they hardly seem real.

“What am I going to do with you?” the real Damen asks, attempting a disapproving gaze but failing miserably. His eyes always betray him, showing nothing but love.

“Hmmm . . .” I glance between my two boyfriends—one real, one conjured. “I guess you could just go ahead and kiss me. Or, if you’re too busy, I’ll ask him to stand in, I don’t think he’d mind.” I motion toward manifest Damen, laughing when he smiles and winks at me even though his edges are fading and soon he’ll be gone.

But the real Damen doesn’t laugh. He just shakes his head and says, “Ever, please. You need to be serious. There’s so much to teach you.”

“What’s the rush?” I fluff my pillow and pat the space right beside me, hoping he’ll move away from my desk and come join me. “I thought we had nothing but time?” I smile. And when he looks at me, my whole body grows warm and my breath halts in my throat, and I can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever get used to his amazing beauty—his smooth olive skin, brown shiny hair, perfect face, and lean sculpted body—the perfect dark yin to my pale blond yang. “I think you’ll find me a very eager student,” I say, my eyes meeting his—two dark wells of unfathomable depths.

“You’re insatiable,” he whispers, shaking his head and moving beside me, as drawn to me as I am to him.

“Just trying to make up for lost time,” I murmur, always so eager for these moments, the times when it’s just us, and I don’t have to share him with anyone else. Even knowing we have all of eternity laid out before us doesn’t make me any less greedy.

He leans in to kiss me, forgoing our lesson. All thoughts of manifesting, remote viewing, telepathy—all of that psychic business replaced by something far more immediate, as he pushes me back against a pile of pillows and covers my body with his, the two of us merging like crumbled vines seeking the sun.

His fingers snake under my top, sliding along my stomach to the edge of my bra as I close my eyes and whisper, “I love you.” Words I once kept to myself. But after saying it the first time, I’ve barely said anything else.

Hearing his soft muffled groan as he releases the clasp on my bra, so effortlessly, so perfectly, nothing awkward or fumbling about it.

Every move he makes is so graceful, so perfect, so—

Maybe too perfect.

“What’s wrong?” he asks, as I push him away. His breath coming in short shallow gasps as his eyes seek mine, their surrounding skin tense and constricted in the way I’ve grown used to.

“Nothing’s wrong.” I turn my back and adjust my top, glad I completed the lesson on shielding my thoughts since it’s the only thing that allows me to lie.

He sighs and moves away, denying me the tingle of his touch and the heat of his gaze as he paces before me. And when he finally stops and faces me, I press my lips together, knowing what’s next. We’ve been here before.

“Ever, I’m not trying to rush you or anything. Really, I’m not,” he says, his face creased with concern. “But at some point you’re going to have to get over this and accept who I am. I can manifest anything you desire, send telepathic thoughts and images whenever we’re apart, whisk you away to Summerland at a moment’s notice. But the one thing I can’t ever do is change the past. It just is.”

I stare at the floor, feeling small, needy, and completely ashamed. Hating that I’m so incapable of hiding my jealousies and insecurities, hating that they’re so transparent and clearly displayed. Because no matter what sort of psychic shield I create, it’s no use. He’s had six hundred years to study human behavior (to study my behavior), versus my sixteen.

“Just—just give me a little more time to get used to all this,” I say, picking at a frayed seam on my pillowcase. “It’s only been a few weeks.” I shrug, remembering how I killed his ex-wife, told him I loved him, and sealed my immortal fate, less than three weeks ago.

He looks at me, his lips pressed together, his eyes tinged with doubt. And even though we’re merely a few feet apart, the space that divides us is so heavy and fraught—it feels like an ocean.

“I’m referring to this lifetime,” I say, my voice quickening, rising, hoping to fill up the void and lighten the mood. “And since I can’t recall any of the others, it’s all I have. I just need a little more time, okay?” I smile nervously, my lips feeling clumsy and loose as I hold them in place, exhaling in relief when he sits down beside me, lifts his fingers to my forehead, and seeks the space where my scar used to be.

“Well, that’s one thing we’ll never run out of.” He sighs, trailing his fingers along the curve of my jaw as he leans in to kiss me, his lips making a series of stops from my forehead, to my nose, to my mouth.

And just when I think he’s about to kiss me again, he squeezes my hand and moves away. Heading straight for the door and leaving a beautiful red tulip behind in his place.

    Really?

When I read Evermore, I have to admit that it was not my favorite book. I found the characters contrived, annoying, and completely unlikeable. The story was one we've all heard before: the young undying love of two teenagers with some kind of magical connection who would do anything for each other, blah blah blah. Twilight much?
But, I decided to give Alyson Noel another chance and I read Blue Moon. I was disappointed to find Ever even more annoying and stupid than in the first book. She was often faced, in her opinion, with "only one choice." No, actually, there was always ANOTHER choice, usually the better one. But no, Alyson Noel wanted to set us up for the third book in the series with a whole new set of (unneccessary) problems.
Even though a certain character has been obviously acting dodgy the whole book, Ever trusts them with healing Damen, her one true love? (Who, by the way, goes through a completely unrealistic character change. This is stretching it, even for fiction.) And then another character, who Ever knows from the beginning is bad news, she trusts with saving Damen? Even though we know, THE ENTIRE BOOK, that this character is trying to kill him. I mean really?!?!
Noel's characters are fake, and even though the author mentions again and again Miles and Haven are Ever's BFFs, they often treat her like dirt. And even Damen, who is supposed to be this perfect guy, does some pretty questionable things. Alyson Noel makes him "astonishingly beautiful" thinking that this automatically makes him likeable. Does Ever only love him for his looks? Because that's all she ever talks about.
Don't get me wrong, as a teenage girl, I love all of the romance, and this series had potential to be good. But with so many elements that just aren't up to par, the Immortals Series falls short. But is literature so lacking and contrived these days that an author can't be original? Do we instead have to rely on the formulas we already know work? The rich boarding schools, vampires, and undying teenage love? And what's with the annoying heroines? We could use to smart, strong young women here!
The Immortals Series is a quick read that one should read for fun. There are aspects of the series that I enjoy, but on the other hand, there are aspects that could DEFINATELY be improved. And though my review is mostly negative, I did find the book entertaining through parts, and I did finish it rather quickly. So I recommend this book as long as the reader goes into it only for fun, and not looking for actual substance.

an outstanding teen fantasy in the tradition of Kelly Armstrong and Stephanie Meyers

Ever and her entire family died in a car cash but the six hundred years old Immortal Damen brought her back to life by making her an Immortal too. They have loved one another for centuries, but each time they get close to each other, his wife Drina kills Ever. She reanimates; he finds her; they renew their love and his wife murders her. The cycle seemed endless until now when Ever changes the triangular interrelation dynamics by killing Drina. -----------

A new student enters the night school; Ever instinctively distrusts Roman with his bonhomie and surface good will thoughts. Damen becomes ill and when he recovers he treats Ever as an enemy and a stalker. The student body dissolves their differences and become one group who loathe Ever. She knows somehow Roman is behind the animosity and believes he is an Immortal. As Damen begins to age and die, Ever journeys to Summerland, the dimension between dimensions, seeking a cure for her eternal beloved. There she learns she can go back in time to save her family. As she decides what to do, she vows no matter what she will save Damon and reverse the aging process.-------------

BLUE MOON, the second Immortals saga (see EVERMORE) is an outstanding teen fantasy in the tradition of Kelly Armstrong and Stephanie Meyers. Ever struggles with becoming a pariah at school and cope with Damen's dire health problems and she is a firecracker who intends to obtain the knowledge needed to save her beloved and return the student body back to the normal rivalries and bickering. She has several obstacles to overcome starting with her lack of experience with what to do and no one to turn to that she feels she can trust; adding to her issues is one wrong choice means tragedy.-----------

Ugh...spare yourself the price and the time

Forgive my headline, but I have to be honest. No disrespect to the author but I so detested this pointless and plotless story that I feel compelled to warn other readers. Now don't get me wrong, I really did want to like this book, book one was ok and I had some pretty good hopes for book 2 but I ultimately found the characters to be annoying, the story line lame, and the ending a pointless cliffhanger--there really is no need for a third book. I mean, yes I get the fact that Ever and Damen are no Bella and Edward, but the attempt at the love triangel was lame at best and really pourly executed. I couldn't even bring myself to read the whole thing, I ended up skimming it, and boy am I glad I did. I'm sorry to say that these characters lack complexity that would even merit a series. Spare yourself and find another read.

Ever is now an immortal, and she's eager to learn everything - from manifesting objects to visiting the paradise Summerland.

Things are looking up for Ever and Damen, who can finally be together. But just as Ever finds her power's growing, Damen's starts to fade. He's becoming weak and he's even starting to forget Ever.

Ever travels to Summerland to save Damen, but while there she discovers she might be able to save her family. Ever must choose which path she'll take and who she'll end up saving.

I really enjoy sequels, but they make me nervous, especially when I loved the first book as much as I did EVERMORE. But Alyson Noel surpassed all my expectations, and not only is BLUE MOON an amazing sequel - it sets the bar for the rest of this series very, very high! When I reached the last page of this one, all I could say was "wow!"

There were numerous twists that kept me guessing. Just when I thought I had things figured out, I would get pulled in a new direction, which kept the book fast-paced and full of suspense - I had to keep turning the pages.

I really liked the addition of Roman and the twins Romy and Rayne that Ever meets in Summerland. They added to the story but still have a lot of mystery surrounding them, so I'm eager to see how the many stories that were weaved together in BLUE MOON will play out.

Another highly recommended book from Alyson Noel, I can't wait to read more about Ever and Damen. THE IMMORTALS series is one you'll want to get your hands on!

    My God, What Happended?

What did happen? The first book was amazing. It pulled you in, and I couldn't stop reading. And then this? This is a disgrace to the series. Repeatitive, horrible. I didn't even finish the book, I couldn't bear to read it any longer.

    Seriously, what happended?

It's not supposed to be Twilight

ok the book was blane in a sence that it fit the book. it wasn't as detailed as "Twilight" (winy voice) but that what made it its own. so some kid moved to a town and met an immortal and he ended having to save her. here are some differences, she whent through a life tragety, has magical abilities, and saved herself in the end non like bella, so sat there and just died, with no hope. if you were a true reader you would have picked up many books that are like twilight, because lets face it, twilight was a nock off of other books. Just because everybody got real into it doesn't mean it was the only good forbidden love vampire book out there. it was't. this book was good for its own and i can't wait to read the next one, not twilight. get over it.

    So-So

The book was alright. It wasn't the best, it didn't suck either. The ending got me a little irritated, no offense to the author. Other than that, Blue Moon was alright.

    Does not worth

A girl who is still learning to control her powers as an Immortal, teenage Ever Bloom is as in love with the Immortal Damen as he is with her-until he dumps her just before the long-awaited night when they plan to sleep together for the first time. This is just a cheap sell to attract teens. Nothing but selling trick. Does teach anything new.

    Alyson is an awesome writer!

I like evermore better (because Blue Moon broke my heart), but this was still awesome! I cried throughout the book and was sobbing at the end. Needless to say, the book ended up in the freezer for the night. It is so easy to get sucked into the characters in the story. I felt everything Ever was going through. I just hope in Shadowland, Alyson mends my (Ever's) heart. She has a great style to her writing and I'm looking forward to more.

    Good book

Blue Moon was a really good book, but I think that EVERMORE was way better. What I loved about the book was that you did not expect what was going on the whole time it keeped me thinking what was going to happen next. There were some parts that I wish Ever did not do what she did but that is how the story gose. Overall the book was good but it could have been beter.

Not as good as the first

The first book in the Immortals series was great. You weren't really sure what Damen was. All you knew is that he had lived a Long time. And I loved the red tulips. Unfortunatly, after reading Blue Moon, I think Alyson Noel would have been better off leaving Evermore as a novel, and not creating a series. Blue Moon was very predictable, and it seemed like everything in the middle of the book was all a bunch of unimportant filler information. I was just waiting for the author to reveal what I already knew. I also thought that Summerland lost some of its surreal and mysteriuos appeal. I've started Shadowland and I've heard it's better, but so far I still believe that this series would have been better off as just a novel.

    ........why bother with a sequel??????

I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
The plot is under developed, the characters are EXTREMELY flat and unbelievable, the setting makes the story line feel so fake.
There was absolutely no depth. Specially the part where Damen *tries* to tell Ever about her past lives, its just sad. No history, no knowledge, no reference.

the author used the phrase "and even though...." about 200 times in the first 50 pages.
it was extremely distracting and i actually was more entertained counting the times she used the phrase.

    jaw dropping

Just when I think I know what's going to happen next there's a twist. This book kept me on edge the entire time I was reading it. In the book you learn more about the characters and find out who they really are. You realize just how much Ever really loves Damen. But it was the ending that truely took my breath away I almost started crying on the plane. I can not wait till the next book, because the ending was so suspenseful

    Huge disappointment!!

I throughly loved Evermore but the storyline in Blue Moon was too drawn out too long and boring. I had to force myself to keep reading. That whole thing with Roman and Ava and Summerland and the weird twins on and on and on...blah! And the ending.... dumb. Ever is sooo stupid! she has no sense at all geez. Any sane person would have listened to the weird twin over Roman. I sure hope the storyline for Shadowland is much better than Blue Moon cause if I have to force read I probably won't make it through the rest of the series.

    HA HA...are you serious?????

Okay, before I go deep into this review, I'd like to say that I'm sorry if I'm hurting anyone who loves this book. Alright, so just wanted to say that this book is........not so great as I though it'd be. I liked Evermore a lot, so I was interested in continuing the series. When I first read the synopsis on Blue Moon, I was like, "okay, I can deal with this." I thought the story would be like New Moon by Stephenie Meyer (haha that's funny, I just realized they both have 'Moon' in their titles.....creepy :D). In other words, the two main characters wouldn't be together the entire book. So I start reading and its great....till Damon leaves and then the book shifted focus. It was so random at some parts, like the the new villain (I forget his name) and the whole thing with Ever wanting to see her family again, when she said that Damon was her soul-mate and all but decides to leave him to go back to her petty life before. At the end, I was completely unsatisfied and down right disappointed. Sorry folks, I wanted to like it, but I can't hide the truth. Overall, it was okay, but totally misleading. I just wish that in Shadowland that Ever will get her act together and grow up, but apparently people are giving it bad reviews and saying, quite frankly, the opposite. GREAT. I guess I'll read it anyway to find out what happens. You know what they say "curiosity kills the cat."

    Such a letdown

After being really pulled in and loving the characters from Evermore, this book did bring the same thing. It seemed to drag and got really tired of the plot. I stopped reading and don't plan to finish, which is really disapointing because the first one was so good.
