I think everyone interested in the history and heritage of Eastern Kentucky should read 'Blue Moon Over Kentucky.' Mr.Vaughn relates his own experiences as he grew-up in Van Lear in Johnson County. Van Lear like so many coal towns was a center of industry and culture, but with the collapse of the domestic coal market after WWII it and the other 'company owned' towns all but died. This book also offered a plan that could have been carried out by the Federal Government much like the TVA. Of course, the program was never implemented and much of Eastern Kentucky remains economically depressed. Still, I urge everyone in Eastern Kentucky to read,'Blue Moon Over Kentucky.'
