SPending Power - Let your dollars be heard

This book gives you great insight into how companies lobby and contribute their profits to politicians, and it also provides information on litigation, settlements and humanitarian causes that are associated with that business.

If you want your hard earned money to be directed to positive areas, with companies who use their money in a fair and balanced way, then this knowledge is power, and shopping is a fact of life. A tool to help align yopurself with companies who have the same interests, ethics and values. This book assists by giving key information in a concise and easy to read format, the index makes the search so quick and easy - it fits in your purse!

It is surprising to find how much money is dropped into the political coffers by some of these companies, without regard for public good, but personal lobby gain. It is truly enlightening, and this book now assists me in making decisions to stop doing business with entities that I determine are conducting themselves outside the scope of the morality, ethics and values I hold dear.

This book is easy to use, well worth referring to often (mine is in my glove compartment, and easily switched to my purse). People have the power to control where their money goes long after you leave the store or pay the bill, so it pays to be well armed with information. Know that when you shop, when you spend your money with a particular merchant, retailer, restaurant, investor etc. you are controlling and contributing to what is important and valued by 'you'.

    Great New Edition

This book has stimulated many conversations with family friends. Business are obviously involved in the government, but who would have known to such an extent. A must have for those involved in the political process (which should be all of us). A great little resource!!!

An exhaustive guide to the practices of our best-known corporations

In a day when corporations run prominent ads touting their good citizenship, environmental and otherwise, the consumer needs better information on whom he is spending his money with. The Blue Pages provides a far-reaching listing of U-S companies, with scrupulously researched information on their personnel, environmental and political activities. Significant litigation is included. While the outlook of the book is progressive, it steers clear of a good-guys-vs.-bad-guys approach. The authors follow a "just the facts, Ma'am", policy, leaving it to the reader to decide whether a company deserves their business. The Blue Pages is well organized, with plent of cross-references and an impressive index. The book is sized for portability, suitable for purse, glove compartment -- or stocking.

    Great source of information

It is a great tool to see how the companies are spending your money. They spend their money on a lot of lobbying on topics not directly affecting them.

I am a strong beleiver that the power should be with the people not the big money companies who donate even millions on lobbying. How can I compete with that money, by seeing how the companies I use spend their political dollars

    Full of useful info

This is a fantastic resource for determining a company's political and social stance. If you are someone like me who does not like to spend my money at stores who have policies and support causes that are contrary to my view, you now have a one-stop resource to figure things out. For example, did you know that Barnes & Noble raises awareness of autism and Down Syndrome, sponsors literacy programs, donates books to disadvantaged youth, and supports higher learning and the arts? It also has a written nondiscrimination policy covering sexual orientation and gender identity. It offers health insurance coverage to employees' domestic partners. I didn't know that either, but now I do! This book is awesome!
