Julie Miller is not quite as famous as her husband, guitarist-producer Buddy but these these two early efforts offer a lot of his tasty playing and her singing and songwriting. Blue Pony was her first secular effort after several Christian contemporary albums and showed promise. Broken Things was a step forward and contained several really good songs including All My Tears (covered brilliantly by Emmylou Harris on Wrecking Ball) and Out In The Rain, a duet with Buddy who also acted as producer. The music on both is raw-edged and yet catchy. I do have a problem at times with understanding Julie's vocals but the emotion always comes through. Fans of alt-country and folk-rock should find plenty to enjoy.
