Overview

The original Wilmington Blue Rocks joined the Class B Interstate League in 1940 and became its most successful franchise.  The league prospered during the heyday of minor league baseball when more than 400 teams were playing in 59 leagues from coast to coast.

The Interstate League was one of only nine of these leagues able to play through World War II, and it also overcame the difficult years of the Korean War.  But it could not survive the advent of television, the competition of the major leagues and rapid societal changes.

Forty years after the demise of the original team, a new Blue Rocks club emerged. Its performance in the Class A Carolina League has been even more spectacular than that of its predecessor, marking it as one of the most successful tams in organized baseball in 1990s.
