Editorial Reviews

From Barnes & Noble
The Barnes & Noble Review
Catherine Anderson explores the restorative powers of love with a tender romance that springs from a seemingly disastrous one-night stand. Her heroine, Carly Adams, falls for the first guy she lays eyes on, literally. Born blind, 28-year-old Carly has recently had her vision restored. Unfortunately, the handsome cowboy she falls for is careless, and soon Carly is pregnant, a condition that threatens her newly restored eyesight and her future plans. Hank talks her into marrying him as a temporary measure, but slowly and surely, their arrangement feels more like love, until a moment of danger delivers a severe reality test. Readers will be intrigued to learn that the author first heard of this eye disease, lattice dystrophy, from a real-life fan who took the opportunity to write Anderson because she so enjoyed the disabled heroine in Phantom Waltz. Ginger Curwen
From the Publisher
"Anderson again explores the ways in which a physical disability can impact a relationship in this moving contemporary romance...readers will embrace Anderson's characters and her message—that love bridges all divides."
—Publishers Weekly"
Publishers Weekly
Anderson (Sweet Nothings, etc.) again explores the ways in which a physical disability can impact a relationship in this moving contemporary romance, set in picaresque Crystal Falls, Ore. Blind since birth, Carly Adams is celebrating the surgical restoration of her sight with a friend at a Western bar when she meets rancher Hank Coulter. Hank plies Carly with liquor, intent on a one-night stand, but he gets more than he bargained for when he learns that their brief encounter has resulted in pregnancy. Neither consider abortion for a second even though pregnancy will have dire consequences for Carly's sight and her plans to attend graduate school. Nor does Carly worry that her child might inherit her condition, lattice dystrophy. Instead, Hank bullies her into marriage. Hank redeems himself as the story progresses, treating Carly with tender care as she deals with her pregnancy and her deteriorating sight, but his most daunting hurdle may be her emotional insecurities. It's evident that Anderson has thoroughly researched lattice dystrophy, and this, more than anything, will help readers gain a better understanding of Carly. The last-minute revelation that Carly was burned in a previous relationship feels superfluous, but readers will embrace Anderson's characters and her message-that love bridges all divides. (Dec.) Meet the Author

Catherine Anderson lives in the Oregon mountains with her husband and her Rottweilers, Sam and Sassy, who seem convinced that they are teacup poodles and that obedience training is for people. Catherine spends leisure time with her family and friends, including her sons and daughter-in-law, often discussing intriguing story twists for her books. Such talks can draw curious stares if they happen to take place in a restaurant and involve plotting the demise of a fictitious villain.

An award-winning author of twenty published works, Catherine is currently working on her next full-length romance for Onyx.

    A heartfelt read!

Catherine Anderson is one of my favorite authors. This novel is touching and brought tears to my eyes. The strenth and integrity of the characters she brought to life makes use root for them and feel their pain and love. The challenges the main character has with her eyes is something I have never heard about but wow very interesting. I loved this book and would read it again.

    Heart-warming and emotionally packed

This book is a wonderful continuation of the Coulter family series. It touched me so deeply in many ways. One page I would be laughing (just wait until the driving scene), and the next I would be bawling. Also, it may be heavy in medical terminology, but it was never boring. The story is very tender and shows that love can overcome all obstacles. I highly recommend this book to any romance novel fan.

    Simply Sweet

It was fun to watch a couple, if not so young in years, than in attitude and experience find the right footing. The story of Hank and Carly proved to be more special than I had anticipated. Although, Carly was so stubborn and childish in the beginning I had my doubts that this would work into a good book. So glad I stuck it out. What a sweet and unselfish love story theirs turned into.
