Taiyo Matsumoto made his manga debut in 1986 in the anthology, Afternoon, with the short story, Straight. His credits boxing serial, Zero, the domestic drama, Hanao, the sports manga, Ping Pong, the beautiful and violent, Black and White, and the Moebius inspired, No. 5. Black and White, and No. 5. were both published by VIZ.

Meet the Author

One of the most influential and innovative manga artists currently working in Japan, Taiyo Matsumoto is best known to English-reading audiences as the creator of GoGo Monster, Number Five, and Tekkonkinkreet, which was made into a critically acclaimed animated film of the same name. In 2007, Matsumoto was awarded a Japan Media Arts Festival Award for Excellence, and in 2008, he won the prestigious Eisner Award for the English publication of Tekkonkinkreet.

This has got to be one of the best manga's I've ever read! I recommend Blue Spring for its interesting depiction of Japanese delinquents! Filled with abstract art and ugly characters, this manga is a must read!
