Blue's Big Musical Movie

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Moira McCormick

How can you not love an album with a song called "Sidetable's Lament"? In the film, Blue the clue-dropping dog, her human pal Steve, and their assorted friends the French-accented Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper shakers and their baby Paprika, for instance are putting on a backyard musical. One of the most charming elements of Nickelodeon's hit preschool series Blue's Clues is the loopy, almost surreal quality of the action -- partly a result of many of the characters being inanimate household objects. That's also one of the more appealing ingredients of this sprawling soundtrack album, spun off Blue's first motion picture, Blue's Big Musical Movie. They're assisted by G-Clef soul giant Ray Charles and the Notes a cappella veterans the Persuasions, who explain how music works using R&B tracks with names such as "Notes," "Rhythm," "Tempo," and "Dynamics." They put it all together in the infectious "There It Is!", a terrific introduction to African-American music which is sadly lacking in the majority of kids' audio. Pop, Latin, jazz, and other styles get a workout here, too, with plenty of positive messages to impart on songs such as "I Can Be Anything That I Want" and "As Smart as You Are." This is one case of the "Blue's" you won't want to get rid of.
All Music Guide - Heather Phares
Blue's Big Musical Movie features more entertaining songs from Blue the Dog and her friends, including "The Breakfast Song," "I Can Be Anything That I Want To Be," "As Smart As You," and "The Clipboard Shuffle." Another engaging album from the Blue's Clues characters.
