Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This is an absolutely delightful book for the Blue's Clues fan or any child. Blue and her friends introduce the reader to 37 best-loved nursery rhymes. Each of the rhymes in this adorable collection is illustrated with Blue, Magenta, Periwinkle, Salt and Pepper, Tickety and others from the popular children's television show. From "Hey Diddle Diddle" to "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," little ones will be amused and entertained by these timeless classics. While most of the nursery rhymes have been unchanged, several such as "Magenta Had a Little Lamb" are retold with a twist that will thrill your favorite Blue's Clues fan. The text is large, uncluttered and easy to read. This is a perfect collection to introduce any child to these classic songs and verses. 2001, Simon Spotlight/Simon & Schuster, $15.95. Ages 2 to 7. PreS-Gr 2-This will be a definite hit with Blue's Clues fans, and a surefire way to engage reluctant readers. There are 37 classic rhymes, including "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," "Hey Diddle Diddle," "Little Miss Muffet," and "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," which remain true to form. However, liberties have been taken with some of the original names. Blue's Clues characters personalize some of the rhymes just a bit, e.g., Periwinkle the cat stars in "Peri, Peri, Quite Contrary," and "Little Blue Peep," but the changes do not diminish their true spirit. The bold and vibrant, three-dimensional-looking illustrations bring the selections to life. Each white page is bordered with a blue zigzag design, and the textured materials used in the art for "Baa, Baa, Black Sheep" seem to jump off the page. Preschoolers will love listening to these rhymes, and both first and second graders could easily read them independently.-Wanda Meyers-Hines, Ridgecrest Elementary School, Huntsville, AL Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
