The blues can mean a lot of things, from being a rather strict musical form to songs with a generally blue feeling or tone that may or may not follow a blues progression. The latter is the case with this 14-track collection. There are some actual blues pieces here, but most of these tracks are more about feeling down and blue than they are anything truly a part of the blues as a musical form. And yes, nothing leads quicker to the blues than a broken heart, and that's the theme here, from Guitar Crusher's "Darling I Miss You" to Miller Anderson's "Boatman" and Coco Montoya's "The Life of My Broken Heart." If you're having a blue day because you miss someone and your heart is breaking because of it, this set will do very little to change that feeling. It's full of longing. It's probably best to listen to it on a bright sunny day when the heart has half a chance to rise out of such things.
