The blues can mean a lot of things, from being a rather strict musical form to songs with a generally blue feeling or tone that may or may not follow a blues progression. The latter is the case with this 14-track collection. There are some actual blues pieces here, but most of these tracks are more about feeling down and blue than they are anything truly a part of the blues as a musical form. Nothing here is very cheery -- there's little joy in Gary Barden's "When a Blind Man Cries," the Dave Kelly Band's "It Hurts Me Too," or Meena's "I'd Rather Go Blind," nice as these versions are. There's also the sad misstep of Eamonn McCormack's "A Night in the Life of an Old Blues ...
