Meet the Author

Erin Hunter
Erin Hunter

Erin Hunter is inspired by a love of cats and a fascination with the ferocity of the natural world. As well as having great respect for nature in all its forms, Erin enjoys creating rich mythical explanations for animal behavior. She is also the author of the bestselling Seekers series.

Biography

Erin Hunter is the nom de plume of three British writers who create enthralling, animal-centric YA fantasies in the tradition of Brian Jacques's Redwall books. In 2003, they launched their bestselling Warriors series with Into the Wild, the story of a domesticated kitten who leaves the comforts of his human home to join a family of feral cats living in the woods. Introducing a captivating world where rival cat clans struggle for survival, the book was an immediate sensation with animal- and adventure-loving preteens. Since its debut, Warriors has become a genuine publishing phenomenon, spawning a string of six-book miniseries, each with its own distinct story arc.

The Erin Hunter collaboration is an unusual but highly successful one. Characters and story ideas emanate from editor Victoria Holmes, who keeps track of previous plot lines, ensures continuity, and coordinates the details of a complex and growing cast of characters. Kate Cary and Cherith Baldry take turns writing individual books; then everything is vetted again through Holmes, who checks carefully to make sure the stories are told in a single, unified voice. With different writing styles at work, this would seem a daunting task. However, in a 2006 interview, Holmes explained her modus operandi: "I think of it as being able to "speak Erin Hunter", like speaking a different language, and after working on [so many] scripts, I know pretty much at once if a line or phrase doesn't sound right."

Although the Erin Hunter books are written for young readers, they do not shy away from difficult material. The animals face life-threatening dangers and experience pain, grief, and loss -- sometimes even treachery within their own ranks. But the authors are always careful to reinforce positive messages about family, friendship, loyalty, and love. Independently, Holmes, Cary, and Baldry stay busy with their own writing and editing projects; but in 2008, they reunited for a second animal fantasy series. Seekers: The Quest Begins features a trio of bears from different species (black, polar, and grizzly), who join together for an adventure-filled odyssey that will change their lives forever.

Good To Know

Fun facts about "Erin Hunter" and the Warrior books, plus advice for aspiring writers:
Cherith Baldry and Kate Cary have always loved cats -- and writing fantasy stories! Cherith is particularly interested in the stories of King Arthur, with all those glorious battles, knights, and a courtly code of behavior. Kate is fascinated by animal interaction and the way you can read all sorts of hidden motivation into what cats do. She's also not afraid of describing the goriest scenes!

Says Victoria Holmes, "I love being one of the Erins and frequently dream of being a cat running through a forest when I am coming up with new story lines. Teaming up with Kate and Cherith on the Warriors books is an unconventional way of working, but we love writing the books together and it means we can produce them much faster than a single writer could."

They came up with the single name, Erin Hunter, to avoid confusing their readers by having books from the same series filed in different places on the bookshelves.

Erin's advice for aspiring writers: "Read, read, and read some more! Make sure you read a wide variety of stories: fantasy stories teach you about making up completely new worlds, crime-solving stories teach you about handling a complicated plot, stories with lots of characters teach you how to describe relationships. Also, write as many stories as you can, even if no one else reads them. And remember that the best inspiration comes from what's around you -- Kate and Cherith go for long walks through the woods to find new locations for the cats to explore. They also spend hours watching their cats -- and other people -- to see how they behave in certain situations."

    1. Also Known As:
Erin Hunter is the pseudonym for three writers: Cherith Baldry, Kate Cary, and Victoria Holmes
    2. Hometown:
All three writers live in the U.K.

    Can't wait!

I can't wait for this book to come out! Erin Hunter rocks and Firestar's Quest was SOOOOOOO good, I can't wait to get to know Bluestar! She's always been one of my favorite characters and it'll be awesome to go back to the old forest.

    Good introduction to the Clans

Maybe I am going through a second childhood, but, I really needed to change my habits that till now have been deeply entrenched in investing, economics, medicine, and all the rest that cause peoples eyes to glaze over while attempting polite interest. No More!
This series has grabbed me! What cat lover has not wondered what may be in the mind of kitty? That calm repose and quiet purr hiding the predator who presents with an instants transition to eyes wide and ears tilting to perfectly focus looking for any unfortunate prey that may have triggered this response. Those who have been fortunate enough to see nature up close may have been privy to the loose consortium's that strays develop. It is but a short hop of imagination to the Clans and their life in the wild.
I found this to be great entertainment that was over all too soon. That the stories had upsetting violence was an attention grabber I did not expect. It added to the story believability quotient and was not gratuitous in any fashion. No ridiculous attempts to prevent teens from seeing real life here. Death is handled with proper attention to grief and I really like the way an underlying code of conduct and spiritual connection is continually reinforced. This is a true lesson of life contained in any belief structure(well maybe not dyed in the wool atheists) and that it can be conveyed by the Clan Cats is wonderful.
I really love the Bluestar character, her Clanmates, her forest, the other Clans, all of this wonderful cat world of adventure!
PS I must admit I found that there were some threads that, I feel, were not adequately developed, or, were given a short end. My enjoyment of the book was not lessened by this. I just wish they were in there so there could have been more pages! A Hundred more! I am now almost through Warriors 1-6 darn they go fast. I find I limit my pages daily to keep the adventure alive.
PS 01/16/2010: I have finished the fist Warriors saga. Read Bluestar's Prophecy first!

    Mudkit CANT WAIT!

I know this is probably WAY too early to be writing a review for this book, but I couldnt resist being one of the first people to be on here! I hope that this book is almost good as Firstars quest. I LOVED that book. It was my favorite "extra" book that Erin Hunter wrote. I also cant wait for < the fourth apprentice > to come out either. I hear that it is supposed to be really good. Well, if anyone wants an extra cat in their clan just type in 'Mudkit' in their headline and I will keep an eye out on the reviews. Cya!!!

A prophecy to be Heard of

A Prophecy to be heard of
I haven¿t found many books that catch my attention like Bluestar¿s Prophecy has. The author, Erin Hunter, Is known to write the popular Warriors series in which the book branches off of. I love the suspense and unique personality of each character. Bluestar is one of my favorites, her life filled with much heart break that gives her that special spark to the way her reader¿s respect her.
Bluestar began growing up like any other Thunderclan warrior. She spent much time with her sister Snowfur and other clanmates. She grows to understand the responsibilities of leadership and the evil that she sees through Thornclaw; a menacing, violent warrior. To prevent him from being deputed after the recent leader¿s disappearance, she must go up against him while making sure that any personal issues cannot get in the way.
Many characters are included besides Bluestar. Her sister, Snowfur, is very loving and supportive of Bluestar. Pinestar is the most recent leader in the beginning, leading up to where he disappears. The story, in deep, shows how much family can mean to someone.
I¿ve always loved and admired Erin Hunter¿s work. This book, to me, concludes just how inspirational the books are to younger writers. The thought of living in Bluestar¿s world excites me, and it¿s easy to remember the best moments in the book. I never doubt that the stories characters have a strong voice and uniqueness, each one revealing themselves further as you read on. I recommend this book to anyone with a thirst for adventure, and won¿t mind the impact it will bring to flip to the last page.

    Best Warriors Ever. Period.

This book won my award for being the best warriors book ever. I really see where Bluestar is coming from in the later books and this book thoroughly explains her past. Bluestar's Prophecy made me laugh and cry. If you are a warriors fan, such as a diehard one like me, and the later books are starting to bore you, this book has all the magic of the original series. Original warrior fans, this one's for you!

    ?..

I love this book!Ive read it like,10 times and will be reading it in the future :) This book is about Bluestars past, and what she faced as a newly accepted apprentice through the moment Rusty set paw in the forest. She lost almost every cat important to her due to a prophecy she despised ever since Goosefeather uttered it in her ear...Like a Fire you will blaze through the forest.WindClan was found invading Tc territory from the first leaffall chills while Bluekit was climbing the edge of the ravine with Sunfall, and was made apprentice shortly after Pinestar announced there was too little evidence Wc was stealing prey. After the Gathering, was it,was when Bluepaw and Snowpaw sadly lose their mother to the claws os the Wc med cat,and things spiral from there.....just a actionpacked story about a cat who is detirmened to be leader!Five stars!

Highly Recommended - A Good Book to Relax With

This book introduced me to the Warriors world. It tells the story of a brave and loyal she-cat named Bluefur, and the ongoing rivalry of the Clan world. Bluefur is part of ThunderClan, one of the four clans of the forest, watched over and guided by StarClan. From the very start, Bluefur's inquisitiveness, daring, and observant personality touches the heart of many as she journeys through the phases of Clan life. She is faced with many obstacles that threaten to overwhelm her with grief and/or suspicion, but, in the end, Bluefur conquers them all and earns leadership of ThunderClan. This book is interesting and funny, but also brings tears to the brim of falling. Bluestar's Prophecy is a must-have on your shelf.

    So Sad

I just have to say, the book was awsome, but it made me really sad. The part about Mosskit, and how she was as strong and healthy as the others, but she died, even though it was 'just a game'. I dont know, to me it was just incredibly sad, it made me cry over and over...
My favorite charactor is now Bluestar

Sup goldenfire here. This is what i think of this awesome book.

I just think this book is magnificent. I luv when bluekit opens her eyes for the first time. I hate it when her sister just had whitekit(whitestorm) and she goes out with bluefur and she gets ran over by a monster. But my favorite part over all is when bluefur takes her kits stonekit mistykit and mosskit over to oakheart. The really sad thing is that mosskit dies on his way over there because he is so cold in the snow:( poor mosskit. Well peace out peeps. Hope u liked my review.

You Have To Go To Harper Collins!!!!!

okay! I bet that Adderfang, Stormtail and Goosefeather are plotting something, its SO obvious. Thistlekit is in fact younger than Bluepaw. This book is going to be the best, and I read the first 100 pages of it!!! How you ask? Just go to harpercollins.com, search Bluestar's Prophecy, and click "Read an Excerpt". BINGO! Hope this was helpful!
Any cat who wants to join Nightclan tell me your description and include Nightclan in it.
