Read an Excerpt

Economics is a scientific, highly evolved subject that explains exactly what will happen in a given set of circumstances. It then provides a convincing explanation for why it didn't happen as forecast, and even hints that the economist had half expected such an outcome anyway.... Economic history shows one thing above all else: that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Meet the Author

Afflicted by Welshness since birth, Stuart Trow now lives in exile with his wife and orientates his life around the 6.31 to London's Liverpool Street Station. At the LSE (London School of Economics) the subject of his seminal work was the economics of the rock music industry. The height of his rebelliousness these days is to avoid the Financial Times whenever possible, except when it publishes a letter from him or one of his cronies.
