Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Kathie M. Josephs
The first two pages provide a mini summary/biography of the main characters in the story. This helps the reader connect with the characters and feelings they are having. Luke is comfortable in front of T.V. cameras because his father is a famous NASCAR driver. Now it looks as if Luke is following in his father's footsteps as he has qualified for the biggest BMX racing competition in the country. The main competition facing Luke is Houston Morikami a girl who has won two state titles, and Peter Hildebrand who is always well prepared and has a reputation of being ruthless. No one has ever seen the course where the race is to be held, so everyone should be on an even playing field. Somehow, Peter seems to know more than the other racers, but how could that be? There are many obstacles on the race course which provide major decisions and the art of working together. The story is good and fast paced, the illustrations are fantastic, and the ending provides a life lesson. At the end of the book, the author includes the final standings of the race, discussion questions, a glossary, and a mini biography of the author, illustrator, inker, and colorist. There is also a preview of other similar books. Reviewer: Kathie M. Josephs
