Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Janis Flint-Ferguson
BMX is a sport of the X-games and for those young readers who have seen it on ESPN, this is a book to help them move from television to reading. The book begins with a two page photo of Dennis McCoy, a legend in the sport for being able to do a two and half rotation in 2010 when he was 43 years old. Along with the photo, there is the glossary term for the trick—a 900—and for the style—vert—meaning done in the half pipe. Along with a three sentence paragraph on McCoy, there is a fact box about him. The book also includes a two page spread on Matt Hoffman, who is responsible for inventing many of the tricks performed during the X-game competitions. Other BMX names include TJ Ellis and Shaun Butler, with thirteen in all. The book includes a glossary of relevant terms and an index, making this an informational text suitable to use in introducing young readers to research and nonfiction writing. This is another in the "Best of the Best" series. Reviewer: Janis Flint-Ferguson
